Clean before winter..?

Hmm, general consensus is to get a wash and wax..I'm assuming the wax does the sealing? I'd like to do it myself but I'm worried about doing something silly. Will the hand wash places clean the underside if I ask them to? I don't have any ramps / jacks (or the physical capacity to attempt this.)

Also quite worried about the roof drains and some of the seal around the windows is lifting…the zed is really not a winter car. :(

wax will seal and give the paintwork some protection.... it's pretty easy to do yourself, the key thing is the understand your product.

most will be better used with a very thin layer, leave and buff off with a cloth once 'cured', then put a second one on for best results.

some waxes you can go around the whole car before they cure, some cure almost straight away... so deciding on the wax and understanding how it works is key.

for someone new to this sort of thing, I usually say go with a wax like FinishKare 1000P Hi-Temp Sealant (don't let the sealant in the name fool you, it's a wax paste)

the reason I like this product is that it's cheap, you get a massive tin, it lasts for ages on the car, and you can wax the paint, wheels, exhausts with it.. so very good value... just put it on very, very thinly.

as for a car wash place cleaning the underside - I wouldn't risk it.

**caution - sweeping generalisation coming up** mostly all road side 'quick' car washes damage paint and cars with the way they wash them... and I would be worried that they would just stick their high powered jet wash underneath and do more damage than good.

but then, that's just me... I am a bit mental, with OCD and a long time detailer.....

Thanks cue ball, what about the autogulm aqua wax? So I could use it when wet (as the weather won't hold long) and the spray seems easier to apply?
Also, what do you think of this set?

Though I'd be wary about using an abrasive polish when I don't know what i'm doing..
Sunday morning looks relatively dry so I'll pop by halfords..

Could I use a demon shine spray afterwards?

AG products are decent enough, the kit looks good too... I personally don't use them, but they can produce great results when used correctly.

SRP isn't the most abrasive around, plus BMW paint is pretty hard, so you would be very unlucky to cause damage (except if the car has seen paintwork, then you have different paint to worry about)

use a little product (less is usually more where cleaning products are concerned) and go slow are methodical and I'm sure you'll be fine, demon shine will be OK afterwards too... again not a product I use much though.

Currently in halfords. I'm getting the mini autoglym bodycare kit and trying to choose microfibre cloths. Heavy duty or peach skin or turtle wax microfibre applicator kit?
