Clean at last!

Happy New Year everyone!

After the nightmare that is the British weather keeping my Z completely caked in mut and shite, just before Christmas I managed to get out in the freezing cold and give the car a really good clean, and I must say I'm chuffed to bits with it!

So I decided to take some snaps of it :D

Trouble is, that on Christmas eve morning when I got downstairs when visiting my parents, I was welcomed with a rather pale and shakey father who then proceeded to tell me that he had accidentally reversed his Freelander into the back of my new car!!!!! I couldn't believe it!

Anyway, went and had a look and luckily the damage was only a small dent to the left of the third brake light - managed to go to a place a couple of days ago (Ding Master in Swindon - I would highly recommend them) and they got it out in 15mins - you can't tell at all now - all for £50 - result!

Hope you all like the pics, any comments welcome

When you give the car a general wash, what do you do with the roof. (i know you keep it up but do you wash it?) :D

I've only had this car for about 3 weeks, but on my TT that i had before, I used to use some sticky tape wrapped round my hand to lift off the bits and hairs, then give it a gentle wash with a tiny amount of washing up liquid in a bucket of warm water, then wash it off thoroughly and it comes up really well.

Some other guys on here can probably give some advice on specific products, but i've not found that i've ever needed to use one.

Hi, where abouts do you live, I'm sure I saw your car, I'm based in Cheltenham but travel about a lot.....

On my Grey Z4 I use Prime lime, then jetseal 109 then 2 coats of Collinite

Then on the roof a good dose of the AG hood cleaner then a vax.. then the waterproof stuff..

Nice job mate, A labor of love. My only questions is, why is the wheel on the wrong side of the car? :P

Very nice - the exact twin sister of mine....colour, engine, wheels, pdc, interior. Only difference I can see is you have the stereo Vs Sat Nav.

she cleaned up really nice.

BTW looking at the pictures and being so close to mine I comment you can make a huge difference to the appearence by changing the repeaters to clear, rear brake to clear and switching the aeriel to a short flexible rubber. Also as you have a less digit reg plate the holder and plate can be cut down to give the front a cleaner look.

There are some specific threads on cleaning the top, but Ragtopp seems the favoured product.

cj10 - do you know the best place to get the smaller aeriel? and how hard is it to fit?

When you say change the rear brake to clear to you mean the middle high level brake light or the left and right clusters?

If its the center one, i need to get it replaced anyway cos it is cracked slightly when my dad reversed into it over christmas!

Also, do you have any links to the clear side repeaters aswell?

Probably easiest to drop a few photos in:

Brake light - First to change is the centre high one to a clear lens. I also like one of the many styles of part white light clusters rather than standard:

Match that with side repeaters in white with amber or stealth bulbs

BMW do a retrofit kit of all these lights for £245, but there are many cheaper aftermarket suppliers

Aerial

Aerial - I went for a flexible rubber one from http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...=ADME:X:AAQ:US:11&viewitem=&item=250141758576 as bulk purchased previously by some club members. Ordered online http://www.mangowalk.com and a friend brought it back from the US. They simply screw into the existing base so a 30second job. I chose flexible, not fleabay alloy jobs, in case some toad pushed it while walking by

Number plates - simply cut the frount housing into bits and re-engineered it to fith a facelift front. Purpose was to make it narrower. Any show plate company can make special (legal) plates.

I still need to change my front lights to clear but a quote today from the stealership means that won't be happening yet... :(

Hope that helps

Cool - thanks cj10 - think i might go for the aerial if i can get a collegue to pick on e up from the US - failiing that i might see if others fancy a group buy again.
