just tried a claybar for the first time this morn and im well impressed with the results :D i always thought my cars were shiny but this has made em all look rubbish.ha ha.i say to anyone,give it a go.DSC00036.jpgDSC00037.jpgDSC00038.jpgDSC00034.jpg

Clay does make a huge difference, even on a fairly clean car.

Now give it a good polish and it looks better again, and then a wax!

It's amazing how good they can look with the time to do it all :)

There's lots on the market but I use stuff from Razeglaze - excellent results with their '55 wax.

There is no perfect wax. You have to decide just what you want your wax to do.

Long lasting protection: Use a synthetic sealant.
High Gloss: 100% Carnauba Wax.

Or if you like to pamper your car, you can use both. A sealant first, then overlay that with Carnauba.

Great results there... I didn't notice any difference when I did it... wonder if that was because mine is black?

mine is black also,so is it worth doing it then,,, :?
 
try doing the plastic bag test,i took the advice of the folks on here and i found it worth while.a friend at work had a black civic type r and he did it followed by a polish mith a mechanical polisher and i have never seen anything like it,amazing!!!!!!!give it a go and see. :)
 
My first claying today too! :D

Claying is good; to my eye the appearance was a little better but I was more concerned with removing the impurities... it did that in spades! Really could feel the fell the difference. Took quite a while, but progress rapidly increased once I stopped stroking it (the car) every five seconds.

Then, I polished and waxed... car looks great! Am convinced claying gave a deeper finish when all was completed, well as much as you can see on silver. Definitely going to be claying again. :thumbsup:

I just use the Autoglym stuff too. All said and done the real results come from the work you put in, not the product (so much), from what I have read over the years.


I recently clayed and then just went straight on with wax, and am happy with the results. I used AG high definition wax which seems to last really well and is nice and glossy... pretty cheap too... it's good enough for a silver car anyway, where the real benefits come through the prep of the paint more than the wax.

The ideal process is wash, clay, polish (super resin), polish (again, because super resin has fillers which mask swirls), then wax, then wax, then wax again if you like :D


OK, others will use machines and put on all manner of goodies, but if you don't suffer from OCD the above process lasts ages and looks as good as you would want without people thinking you make love to your cars exhausts and run out every time a bird shites on it for fear of the paintwork getting damaged :rofl: :wink:


Now if I had a black car, or something dark, maybe I'd care more, but silver will never look amazing, claying imho, like you have done, and a quick super resin polish and HD wax, gets the best bang per buck and effort, and probably gets you 95% of the way to it looking the best it will!

Yes, gers, black does benefit. Right after claying (Megs), Cleaner Wax (Megs) then Gold Class (yep, you guessed it, Megs) I was amazed at how long the car looked clean afterward-appeared to take longer for the dirt to get a grip on that slicked up car!
 
My pics from yesterdays effort... from his pics don't think it quite matched bigcoose (hence no real close-ups)... mine is polished and waxed. Horrible morning!

Ive been using clay for years, i was in halfords this morning and cannot believe the cost of the stuff since its popularity went up !
it has at least double in price in 8 years

meguyers used to be £11 for the spray and the bar in a box, now over £25 but does include a cloth
halfords own brand is £20 too :x
 
looking good! did mine for the first time not long ago - mabye its silver that makes the difference as it shows any marks
 
i got my megs clay kit from boyes for £15.no cloth with it tho but i had 1 or 2 laid about so i didn't mind.i think halfords are a rip off for everythin the stock.soooooo expensive :x

Even three years ago the Megs kit wasn't too bad, but it has gone up now, with a nice 'cloth' thrown in to justify the price hike, despite mircofibres being cheap as chips anyway...

I guess you can get it cheap somewhere, it's just finding the suppliers who are not daylight robbers :)

And don't forget, you can reuse that clay! Depends on how "dirty" your car was and if you drop it!

'Cheap' microfiber is cheap microfiber, and can do harm when used.......
 
microfiber cloths.........costco 12" square i think..........30 for £14 and briliant :thumbsup:
