Clay bars. What do you think??

Hi everyone, bought some clay bars through the week after watching some videos on you tube. I washed my car then used the clay bar just like in the videos I watched. I had no dirty residue on my clay bar at all so I assume my car was already very clean. I'm gunna try them on my white van to see if it makes any difference to that. Has anyone else used these clay bars and had good results? Also how often would you use one? Anyway a couple of pics of my washed pride and joy

Here are pcs now, don't know why they didn't attach 1st time

I used the "Bilt Hamber Auto Clay Medium". Worked really well, just needs ordinary water as a lubricant. A good amount of debris came out and the resulting finish was really smooth. It did seem to struggle on the passenger door which had previously been resprayed.

Plus 1 for Bilt Hamber. Used the medium bar when I first purchased the car with good results.

I used a clay bar kit I bought in Eurocarparts on my Z4 and the difference it made was amazing. It removed any rough spots on the surface and I finished it off with a quality polish. Would recommend it and it was so easy to do.

when you clay bar the car it feels like glass, run the bck of your hand over a section that as been clayed and a section that as not been clayed, you can normally feel the difference

nice car too :)

I clay bar my Zed a couple of times a year prior to compounding, Filler glazing and waxing. I then frequently top up the wax and use Sonax Detailer each time I wash. I normally use 3M Scotch clay bars but want to try a clay mitt next time.
Your car looks fabulous by the way !

Can barely see the number plate on my car. That big thick layer of dirt should keep the paintwork well protected :D

I used the 3m scotch ones and are blue in colour. I must admit after doing a couple of panels and not getting any dirt on the clay bar I more or less gave up. I may do it again in a few weeks and try a bit harder and do the whole car. Yeah the car looks great when clean and shiny , thanks for the compliment. Not many Havana brown ones around and get loads of compliments about it where ever I go

I've used both the Meguiars Clay Bar and the G3 Clay Mitt and the Mitt is so much easier to apply and you don't end up a claw hand by the end of it! I just clean the car as normal, hose or powerwash down and then use the Mitt with a sprayer filled with water and constantly spraying as I'm claying.

It's amazing how much difference the bodywork feels with after claying. Lovely and smooth all ready for some gtechniq c2 (instead of wax)

Like this? :P Muck cleared off the plate to avoid attention from the law...

I use a G3 mitt, have done three times sinces buying it in march. This is also when I top up the wax... it's actually due the full session again now.

I find mitts much easier than normal bars and I can't tell the difference in finish. Cracking things.

I'm a big fan of Bilt Hamber clay bar, (medium). Really good at removing tar spots, etc from the lower panels. Use it maybe twice a year.

You can feel if it needs claying just by gently running your fingers over it and feeling "grittiness", I do mine every now and again using bluetack (£1 a bar) whilst washing, getting good results.

Is there a best recommended spray-on jollop to use with a clay mitt, rather than just water?

(just realised I asked the same question in 'Detailing' section a couple of weeks ago ... sorry!)
