Clay Bar Aftermath

I would suggest if you genuinely can't see a reflection in the paint look to using a machine polisher. Which, if used in the correct way will produce a stunning 'night and day' before and after result like nothing else.

A good tried and tested system to use is the 3M, 3 stage method, compound-fine compound-ultra fine polish.

Once done use a decent wax to protect the paint and would avoid anything with silicone in. These have a tendency to smudge and streak with an almost oily haze. They can also be a nightmare to apply successfully especially on darker vehicles.

You could get a local detailer to do this if decided. The results will be pretty much 'as new' and well worth it, if its what your looking for.

When I said I cannot see my reflection I meant it as a metaphor. To most my car is mirror like but like most of us on here we notice the bad over the good. And I'd I see tar spots up close to me it isn't good enough ;)

Zeditus kicking in...

Nice to see you this afternoon Kane

Having seen it, I reckon it's mostly just sap and pollen - my wife parks her car in that car park every day for a few hours and her car is similarly marred and sticky. My car has a lot less, but it's garaged when not being driven. A good wash with warm water / shampoo should see that stuff off in no time. Then polish and wax and it'll be looking gorgeous again 8)

Since I saw you Allen I have been cleaning the beauty. Literally just finished. I shampood it, did the hood thoroughly and gave it a real good 'deep cleanse' (autoglym high definition cleanser). Garaging it tonight and tomorrow it's 2x coats of super resin polish and 2 coats of high definition wax. Then to finalise it, I'll add some rapid detailer for that extra bit of shine.

She's a naked beauty ATM

Thanks for all the advice today!

Kane

PS: To top it all off as I was putting the chemicals away a thick black spider fell on my head and I brushed it off onto my shoulder. Screamed like a girl. #shatmypants

 at the spider :D

Did you check the feel of the paintwork ? Smooth, right ?

I washed mine this evening, polish and wax in the morning first thing

Kane, quick tip for using the QD - use two cloths, one to do the initial wipe of the detailer, then a dry clean one to buff it after. The instructions say use the same one, but it gets too wet. Oh, and a clean bit of the wet one is good for a quick wipe of the interior after you're done with the outside

QD as an interior cleaner? I like the sound of that

It's only any good for a quick wipe to get rid of dust and the odd mark around the doors from shoes, but as a quick combat wash it's ideal. Economical too as the stuff is feckin' expensive

My car is now gleaming 8)

Yep. Smooth as a babies bum. Was go glad that you were right about the sap. Wouldn't have been happy if it was all tar spots. Just going to finish it now

i love these posts keep it up boys, the combo of different products and orders seems to be mental. how about we all get what we use, melt them down into 1 dockoff big tub and have the ultimate 1 hit wonder polish! .... only kidding :D

who was it who said they polished then black holed then waxed?

interesting combo. why polish first? my understanding of polish is changing so it it that the polish will remove the scratches a (a little a lot according to what you use and how good you are) the glaze, im guessing something like black hole, will sort the rest then the wax, e.g natty blue will shine it all up?

ive clayed mine a few months back and then i glazed and sealed uisng black hole and exp sealant. this looked good but didnt last.

last time i washed glazed sealed and then added a coat of natty blue. this made it very shiney and is pretty good at lasting too. but i felt it made the colour of the car different. took the merlot towards a browny-red colour. maybe it was me.

maybe i should do a polish?? yes/no? if so how do you remove all the other stuff or shouldn't I?

There are a set of articles here that should help you understand polishing/glazes/cleaners etc. There are also step by step guides to both hand & machine polishing

yeah Ive read loads of these but then somewhere else it says do it differently :headbang: . i wonder if it makes a difference what colour your car is too to what products to use?
i guess just give it a go if you don't like it a week later it will be dirty and try something else. :D

i really like using the megs ultimate detailer. quick and easy with good results.

there seems to be a load of gospel, ignorance ,misinformation and pure guesswork out there when it comes to polishes , sealants and waxes, i think that there are so many products out there claiming to be "the one" that almost no one is right or wrong , what one person swears by, another will rubbish. I think anyone can use any product and get a satisfactory outcome.I dont quite understand people puttin wax over sealant though , buy a new or second hand car from loads of garages and they will relieve you of a couple of hundred quid for a wonder polymer sealant , they sell this with the line that you never need to wax your car again, or until you spend another two hundred quid on another coat of sealant every two years. if this is the case, why is everyone here waxing over sealants ????. basically wash it however you wash it, polish it however you polish it and wax it however you wax it, some will take an hour, some a day and some a week. there wont be a pile of difference in the shine , just the amount of swirls, the longer you polish the less swirls. ..... the end !!!

i read it was purely for a wet look. nothing else. it wont make it any smoother or shinier just give it a different look to the shine. The last time i did a proper job i put exp sealand ovr the top of the black hole and then naatys blue over that and there was a difference in the look. questionable if it was better or not it did look wetter tho.
