Classic Car Rescue

Anyone see it on Monday ( C5 ) ? Initially showed promise - a couple of geezers ( one American ) going around buying up old classics - doing them up and having them revalued by a professional - a take on wheeler dealers but not so nice blokes . A whole team took on a 911 and restored it in 3 weeks . Nice car but for some daft reason resprayed it orange ( supposed to be a Porker colour of the 70's ) - did nothing for me - would have been better surely to stick to the original colour ( silver I think ). They re-repaired a previous bad repair and smoothed out the roof. It was valued at the end by an expert at £22k and if you wanted you could enter a draw to win it - I'll pass on that one !

I watched the E type jag one. Channel 5? Thought it was an awful program, proper horrible wheeler dealers. Spent most of the time arguing not sure how professional it was...

On the E type Jag one they resrayed it then the idiot american drove it out of the booth he drove it into an engine trolley! :headbang:

Last people I would like to buy a car from.

If your a fan of wheeler dealers you wont be impressed with this. Typical channel 5.

I watched half of the E-Type program before reaching the conclusion that it was utterly awful.

thought it had promise too but

the bald english guy was in another car program. some kind of chop shop thing. that was a bit  too

i watched both of the programs...... but the E -Type was an obomination.......awefull glass sunroof, and it was lefthand drive federal spec .......only 2 carbs......so probably didnt have a proper E-Type cylinder head and it was an auto ........what a waste

Yep and the guy valued the E-Type at £30 k ,that bloke must be on a different planet, not worth more tyan £15 k, this program just way to stagged.

The english guy was also in a programme called Chop Shop with an indian guy, and he was exactly the same in that arguing and effing and blinding.

Did watch the Porsche episode but won't be bothering with the rest of the series

None of these type of programmes are narratives. All stage managed, even the arguments and the incident when the guy damaged the E-Type just after it had been re-sprayed. Light hearted entertainment not to be taken seriously.

Chop Shop was horrid. Since it's the same bloke, I'll definitely give this new one a miss. Thanks for the warning.

There's been a number of car restoration reality shows attempted lately. They all seem to focus on shop personnel conflicts, with the resulting screaming and yelling, rather than what it really takes to restore a car. Better off watching :tumbleweed:

yep another waste oi a good idea ..... how hard can it be,,, that vet building loads of different vehicles it was long winded but better than this

Watched the Porche episode. Wouldn't buy a restored car from any one, if that's what they get up too. must be giving the whole restoration business a bad name, if you ask me.

just watched the episode with the MG.

a shot of them driving an old Jag along a country lane had been inverted so that it looked like they were driving on the right...the give away was the number plate being backwards. later on they were filmed buying round bullet shaped chrome mirrors and when the car was finished, had flat rectangular mirrors.

it really is a shocking program and makes Wheeler Dealers look good

It's a poor imitation of the US programs based on OC choppers etc. A real shame as there are undoubtedly good restoration shops out there but they'll be busy doing a great job on great cars instead of staged effing and jeffing for the benefit of the cameras.

MG rebuilt in 2 weeks??

I doubt it,that crock needed 2 weeks of welding at a minimum.

When i was an apprentice mech the garage i worked for renovated MG's,Austin Healeys,Rovers and a few other various motors. Doing an MG to any kind of quality will take around 4 months.
Welding, leadwork and body prep can easily take up half that time..

Perhaps its a bit like wheeler dealers in the fact they do lots of stuff behind the scenes to the car that are not shown ? Looking at the quality of repair i doubt they would be able to sell them like that..

Wasn't going to watch this again but was tempted because it was an MG - I had an MGBGT restored 30 odd years ago - mine was a tartan red , chrome bumpers , wire wheels etc ( the real thing ! )

This was an awful - for a start it was the least sought after ie rubber bumpers - quite liked the colour at the time ( yellow ) so what did they do ?: resprayed it BRG ( except it wasn't ) filled it the original webasto roof - allegedly replaced all the rusty bits ( more like used filler ) replaced bumpers with chrome ones ( bought rediculously cheap from a dealer who threw in several other bits free - c'mon no self respecting classic car breaker is going to let such bits go so cheap. Then changed the oil and left the engine as it was.

Any self respecting classic car enthusiast wouldn't touch it with a barge pole .

£5000 value - hahahahahahahahahahah - you're aving a larf mate !!!!

Sooo disappointing - same 'stupid' format every week - same responses and same issues - what an opportunity missed.

It's an efficient programme though - if you've seen one you've seen them all....
