Good day folks, Just curious to know if its possible to now class a 16 year old Z as a classic and put on a classic car insurance? Not sure if it's been done by anyone and if so who would they recommend? My coupe really only needs to be insured for a couple of ks a year and my recent insurer wanted to up my premium considerably so thinking l need to look elsewhere.

I read somewhere a while ago that if you have another car that is your daily driver then you can but not sure if I dreamt it

I tried that with my MC and it wasn't very successful.

But I'm pretty sure Classicline gave a quote as a "future classic" - it just wasn't competitive. :(

And be aware that most Classic policies don't have NCD, so after 2years on them you'll lose your NCD entitlement which may be an issue in the future.

Try Aidrian Flux as well..

I use them for a heavily modded car plus assured value…they were competitive

Just to highlight this as it is very important. I use a classic policy on my Golf, just over £100 a year but you don’t build up anything. That is with Norton insurance, check their price and use my name as reference and we both get a £50 discount voucher.

Thanks for that Sir , I'll give them a try. ( do I say I was recommended by Mr Tidy of the Z4 forum?)

Norton insurance is me

ClassicLine is Mr Tidy

Try both and see which one works best, if any. If you do get a good quote from Norton, then you mention me.

Out of interest why do you want classic insurance? Mines with Chris knott and it's less than £450 a year fully comp with protected ncb and everything declared. I can't see that classic insurance would be able to better that!

To be fair I didn't use Classicline because their quote was too dear!

I seem to have been alternating between Adrian Flux and Chris Knott for years now, not on Classic policies but with some modifications declared. I just wish one of them could be competitive for more than one year. :headbang:

I have used Chris Knott several times and always found them competitive and helpful. Real people to speak to. I renewed this Jan at CK's recommendation with Ageas. 5 years NCD and protection, 10k miles - 5k private, 5k business. Garaged in West Wales. Total incl ipt £203.80. £325 excess. I am awfully old though at just turned 70. This is as good as anywhere I've found. An alternative quote as a second car on my main car policy for a Volvo XC70 with NFU was twice as much. Definitely worth giving them a call.

Personally I don’t think 70 is awful or old
