Class Action Lawsuits

Does anyone know of a Class Action Lawsuit against BMW on the Z3 -Z4's? (tires, fuel pump) If so, could you post the website please?

Also, how can you tell if the fuel pump is an N54 & HPFP? What type is on a 2005 3.0i?

Whats the angle, just out of interest?

I'd find it most odd if there were a CAL over such a minor thing as a dodgy fuel pump.....or even tyres when theres no history of the things blowing out etc.. like say the Explorer used to.

I think there was one a while back on the 3-series but that was a cracked subframe so probably more fundamental and expensive....not aware of any on the Z3 or Z4....

:) :)

I can't recall of any class action against BMW on either the Z3 or 4... :scratchhead:

I ran across a site about a month ago, that BMW was sued & is now giving extended warranty on fuel pumps for 10 yrs.

lacroupade, I don't find it odd to ask that question at all. If you check on other BMW forums, you'll find that there are many cases of faulty fuel pumps, even worse, this causes the car to stall, so I wouldn't call this a "minor" problem, what makes it more surprising is that the 2009 BMW's already have the same problems & it's not going over very well after spending 60 grand on a car.

WLH, I just noticed we live in the same state. LOL

What a life, breath+ pay taxes Eat+ pay taxes Drink + pay taxes

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Because I went through fuel pump after fuel pump and many many miles for service, I filed suit, then they 'RED FLAGED" me, saying since I did that, they don't want to see my car. It was under warranty too. I still have the car, it sits in the garage, it's not safe to drive, for me or the other people on the road, if the car stalls again, who knows what might happen.

I see your point then, although its a diabolical reflection on the dealer and BMW...out of interest, how long is your manufacturers warranty over there?

In Europe its typically three years from the manufacturer (up to seven in some cases like Kia!), but others can be 1-2 years from the manufacturer with the balance topped up by the dealer, in which case each party would be responsible for its own bit. Is it the case maybe that you are in a bit of dealer warranty with manufacturers warranty expired (since I wouldn't expect the manufacturer not to honour a legit claim within THEIR warranty period?)?

If that were the case then I would assume your primary case is against the dealer (but I guess that depends how good your consume protection laws are) but that BMW is the easier target (if only a moral one?), hence the CA?

Intrigued of UK

Arn't all BMW's warranty for 4 yrs? In the states it is. Once BMW got the word that I filed a lawsuit claim, they were done with me, even though I was still in warranty. It just ran out Oct, but in any rate, while in warranty they refused me. The service dept has a person that comes to where ever your car when you have a problem, but wouldn't come for mine. It's not through BMW assist, it's through the service dept. I had no choice than to file suit, my car only has (now) 13,000 miles on it. The Lemon Law in my state says "if it's in for service for the same problem 3 times", it's considered a Lemon. I wish BMW would have helped me, but they didn't.

Nope, three years in the EU and possibly less outside?

Might be worth checking the detail as I'm often wrong - I just like arguing! - but is it definitely all manufacturers warranty as opposed to some dealer warranty at the tail end?

The fact you say its "with the service department" implies its the dealer taking on the later stages and the manufacturers warranty may have expired therefore.

Whats the standard manufacturers warranty on cars in the US? Hope you don't mind me harping on, I'm just interested.

BMW manufacture warranty+4 yrs

the service dept avoided me because of the lawsuit, every BMW Dealership in the USA could see the lawsuit as soon as they punch in my VIN#. I called BMWNA they wouldn't talk to me either because of the lawsuit. It didn't matter to anyone that my Z4 was still under BMW warranty. So, I figuer if that's how BMW wants to be, I'll take my business to Mercedes or Porsche.

Interesting, I guess its the length of the warranty that mnakes them reluctant to play sometimes....here it might be less, but the dealer/BMW usually honour most things.

Hope you get some satisfaction!
