I'd agree with him on the 2.8 model.
I waited on the list for several months, got quite an early delivery slot (a cancelation I believe) and this was my first brand new car, so I was super excited.
The first "spirited" drive in it was one of life's biggest disappointments and almost cost me a trip to hospital. This was a truly terrible car.
However a few months later (after expressing my opinions to the dealer on a few occasions) BMW had 10 M Roadsters in the UK and lent me one for the evening. The rest as they say is history. By contrast I loved the M Roadster and kept it over 5 years.
Best thing about the 2.8..? I kept it for 11 months and traded it in for only £750 less than I bought it for. Those were the days.
