Claiming an abandoned E89 Z4

There was a Mclaren 720s parked on my street a couple of weeks ago.

OP, how do you start this abandoned vehicles claim, and is there a fast track service? :D :driving:

Surely you can’t just trailer away the car without first agreeing a sale with someone, wouldn’t that be theft?

That part is in process, I was just trying to get a heads up before jumping in head first.

You will need a good code reader at some stage though for a project of this nature..there will be probably dozens of faults lodged due to the battery decaying but then you will have to see which return or stay..

That's fine, I have access to one when the time comes.

I spoke to the DVLA, you have to be able to prove it has been abandoned, in this case the lack of an MOT in over 5 years, and the moss growing on the ground around where it had sat and not moved proved enough.

Damn, I will have to work harder for a Mclaren then!

Where is it? Because if it's parked up somewhere the owner might live across the road or something and he SORN'd it one day and then a year passed and then as more time passed he ended up just letting it be but it's still his. My neighbour has done that with his old bmw. It's been sat across the road in a visitor parking bay for 2+ years. It has flat tyres, dead battery, think the flywheel needs replaced and the brakes look rusted to hell and will likley be seizing or seized. Parked next to it during covid for 2 years was a range rover evoque. Owner who lived around the corner put a new battery in after 2 years and promptly sold it because it wasn't needed but my neighbour wants to keep his bmw for some reason even though the repair bill grows larger every month it's parked there. likley need 2-3 times what it's worth to get it roadworthy again.

How would that work if Mick Jagger had abandoned it?

Everyone knows a Rolling Stone gathers no moss. :exitright:

It's on a military base, the current owner left the military several years ago, and left it behind. He doesn't have access to it, even if he wanted to now.

That makes a lot more sense. Used to see that all the time.
Back in the day the Station Warrant Officer would get it forklifted to the Fire Section for practice without ever asking anyone.

exactly, all the cars are being cleared out in a couple of months, I just don't want to see it broken if there's a chance that I could get it back on the road first!

That it's not a turbo car is in your favour too. Might get lucky and it cracks into life with fresh fuel and a battery. Spin it over without plugs in first to get oil pressure. Hope this works out, great opportunity, keep us posted.
