Cigarette lighter broken?

I bought a Belkin mini usb adaptor to go with my diy aux input and it isn't working. Tried it in the wife's car and it works no problem. Tried her Tom Tom charger in my car - also doesn't work.
I've checked fuses 5 & 8 and they appear to be ok. Are there any other fuses to check?

What do I do next to figure out if its knackered or not. I have a multimeter at home so can check the voltage but not quite sure how to do this. Can someone please explain how?

How hard were you pushing it in the Z ? You really have to jam it in there hard to make contact.

If you want to try the meter, just set it to 20V DC, put one probe on the outer barrel of the socket and one on the pin at the bottom. Should read around +12 or -12.

x1, i often find there is a bad connection, i just taken it in and out to re-seat it
 
I didn't exactly jam it in but I will give that another try thanks. Then I'll try the voltage reading if it doesn't work.
