Cigarette ash tray/coin holder lid wont close

Its really frustrating me now. I think i have removed all the coins that were stuck, but the hinge mechanism comes to an abrupt stop when I go to close it..

Is there anyway to remove the whole thing?

take out the tray part and remove the screw holding it down...

then gently prise it out backwards and upwards... IIRC the switch panel (with the roof controls) comes with it...

I possibly wouldn't go as far as gannet, but I would take the screw out and remove the ash tray, double check for obstructions. Mine didn't close properly, not sure how it works, of why I tried it... gently but quickly push the lid forward until it stops, release. Once it's fully open, repeat. I think it did this 30 - 50 times before it went back to normal. Been fine since.
