Cig lighter voltage question....

Should this be the normal 12v cig lighter?. My car cam works a treat but when i try to use my trusty tyre inflator it does not. However plug it into the cig lighter in the wifes little Fiesta you could pump up tyres all day?

Any ideas folks?
 
Could it be related to the length of the connector?

I had a couple of USB cigarette lighter adapters that i gave away when I got the BMW as they were too short but worked fine in Fords & Peugeots??
 
Hi Chris, thanks for posting back. Its very odd, tried it after getting the car and thought it must have packed in (had it a few years). Tried it in the Fiesta and fired up and worked a treat?. I dont get any power to it at all, wont turn on, no lights or anything yet other cig lighter powered devices work just fine. Very odd?
What make/model one do you use in your Z4 ?

I get no power unless engine is running.
That's the front cigar lighter smokers pack and the same with the one under the arm rest.
 
Absolutely mate. Doesn't make a blind bit of difference. Which make/model works for you?

Mine looks a bit like this. Ignition on (press start without pressing the brake/clutch):

Works fine. Use the power from the ashtray.
