Chronic Tire Leak

Last weekend my rear passenger tire kept losing air. (It would go from 50 PSI to under 20 PSI overnight). The tires were worn when I bought the car, so I knew they would need replacing soon. Since I had a leak, I went ahead and bought four new tires.

Well, I am having the same issue with the new rear passenger tire. Overnight I will lose 20 PSI of air and need to fill it up before I head to work.

Now I am thinking it's either a valve or rim issue (I REALLY hope I don't have a cracked/warped rim). Am I missing anything? Is there anything unique to these cars that could be causing the air loss?

How does one check for a leaking valve or rim?
 
Take it off & give the inner rim a really good clean then inspect . sometimes they can be a hairline that weeps air .
Rarely happens on face of the rim though
 
Guaranteed It will be the alloy, its a pain but easily remedied by welding the crack :thumbsup:
 
whats size rims are they ? if 19s could be a crack I had it last year ,you wont see the crack unless you take the wheel off and inspect it

They are the stock 18 inch rims that come with 3.0i sports package.
 
If they are badly corroded that will affect the seal with the tyre - I just had to have my wife's wheels refurbished for that very reason. Though they were very, very badly corroded...

That's what the tires that came with the car said on the sidewall. The replacements Michelin tires are only rated for 40 PSI.

That's the maximum pressure for the tyre, not what it should be. Look in the drivers door jam, the pressure is displayed. From memory 32psi front and 35psi rear.
 
I took the offending wheel off and found the source of my issue: the rim had been cracked in the past and someone performed a 'bubba' weld job to repair it. Well, Bubba's work didn't hold, and now I've got a rim to replace. :headbang:

I did a brief search today, and my rim (Style 202) seems to be in short supply. Any tips on where to find one?

Brilliant. I bet the ride was like stone.
 
Don't write off the cracked wheel , if just a split then someone capable can do a repair that will be more than acceptable .
Welding over the split won't do it , a cut down the split followed by filling with weld is the way to do it :thumbsup:
