Chrome Caliper Clips Rust Spots

As with quite a few others on here I purchased the chrome caliper clips on the bulk order and installed them a few weeks ago. I noticed at the end of last week that 3 out of 4 of the pins had rust 'spots' on them! This worried me greatly but after a rub down with some metal polish they all came off but what am curious about is has anyone else had similar experiences and what the cause behind this is? I wouldn't expect rust on even the standard clips after a few weeks!

No rust yet but mine is garaged. I t worries me that the plating is porous enough to allow that after a few weeks. You expect any external chrome item to last a few years before it started to show surface rust.

You sure it is rust and not caked on brake dust / particles?

Rust or corrosion will form if the surface if the substrate is penetrated. If it hasn't then it is surface contamination that has corroded and not the clip itself. Where exactly are these "pins"?

PVR Its definitely rust particles and not brake dust.

20ducks the pins are fitted to the calipers.... and the car is used as an everyday drive but its kept clean and only a couple of hundred miles per week.

To bring this topic back... here is a quick photo from my car this morning, not the best photo as I was in a rush and to be fair the car is pretty dirty at the moment after a lot of rain and motorway driving but am still getting rust spots...

Although blurred that does look like rust coming through the plating, rather than surface contaminants corroding, especially with it being on the weaker corners and edges. Did you use any tools to install, or fingers to push/clip them?

Mine remain spotless after a similar amount of time and get a regular bath but have never been treated or cleaned since clipping in.

Well with a bit of metal cleaner it cleans up but I've had to do that several times already which is slightly worrying... And they were installed by hand, no need for tools.

Sounds like a warranty claim to me ...lol

Obviously it's porous or damaged chrome, rusting and your just polishing the resulting surface rust off
