Christmas Tips

Definitely no tips for the bin men, ours delight in leaving the wrong bins outside the wrong house or worse letting the garden waste bins get swallowed by the collector, at least 4 to date and they don't tell you.
A fiver for the paper boy/girl though.

+ 1 ...... Years ago when the bin men would take anything they always got a good tip. Now its 3 bloody bins which they leave right in the middle of the driveway so you have to stop your car in a dangerous place to move them before you can drive in, and one of those bins you have to pay extra for even though you are already paying the national debt in council tax already.

And expect a right fisting if you have anything too big for the bin.... Bah Humbug !!

+1 on the binmen!

What makes me laugh, is going into a shop, and they have a box in front of the till for "Xmas Tips" WTF?? I've never had, and never will have one of these in my shops, the staff get paid a wage for doing their job. No one pays me any extra at this time of year, indeed the first couple of weeks in Dec are always very tight for us, as when my customers get paid at the end of Nov, then they have to buy the things they've been putting off for months, and the luxuries, like beer and fags, tend to suffer.

And before anyone mentions it, YES, I do give my staff a little bonus at Xmas, but not myself..

Mike

Problem is with tipping the bin man is I will also have to tip the guy who comes and power washes my bins out, then if I tip the paper girl/boy, postie, Tesco delivery driver, the Mormans who knock on the door and Romanian pizza leaflet guy I'm going to be broke

Tim.

Tip for good service only or if you are pleased with a job done.
Surely you must have been happy at some point with the way your food has been served to you, what it tasted like or the attentiveness of the staff

Tim you tight @rse!

Hi Carol, nice to see you on here, I genuinely mean that, I've got no-one to argue with anymore :P I'm always tight at Xmas, the rest of the year I'm generous as can be :?

Tim.

Hmmmm, why do I not believe that!

I tip everyone apart from binmen, unless they take something that doesn't fit in the bin...saves me a trip to the tip. I tip the window cleaner who does the windows at work, girls in John Lewis if i Buy something at xmas time, waiters and waitresses, everyone. Xmas is about giving guys, and makes me feel good. I also get tips at work, especially at Xmas time....

Especially booze!

Tips for dining out, paper boy/girl and some times at the car wash, apart from that CANCEL CRIMBO

The Car Wash!!!

Well,,, it sort of depends on how many of the pretty girls they put on the job,,, so to speak :D

Lucky (or maybe lazy) I stopped doing "career" work in 2010 then just did part-time "wages" jobs for a while.

As a result I stopped tipping once the minimum wage came in, because most employees in what used to be poorly paid jobs were probably getting paid as much as me!

Did about a year and a half delivering online shopping for Sainsburys and for the same reason I didn't expect any tips, but did accept any (not many!) that were offered - after all it's potentially embarrassing to refuse a gift!

I mean it isn't that much different to getting freebies to Goodwood FOS, Chelsea matches, the Melbourne GP, etc. back in the career era.

I dont mind tipping when I feel it is appropiate.

BUT one thing that takes the complete and utter Pi55 is the '12.5% Service Charge' which seems to have crept in in London restaurants. I NEVER pay the service charge, I ask for it to be removed always.

When asked 'Was everything alright sir?' I will say , 'yes, fine thank you' ( I would have informed them earlier if things weren't).

Why do people pay this? I can imagine the response from my clients if I added a 12.5% Service Charge to my broker fees!

I've just remembered I do tip my barber every 5 weeks or so with a pound, not a great amount but she always appreciates it :)

Tim.

Even worse as in Michel Roux's case where the tip is going in the restaurant's earnings and not the staff

My other half used to work in a Thai restaurant and was paid only in tips however it was all shared out equally at the end of the day between the staff . Always narked me slightly as she would work her butt off whilst others would sit back doing as little as possible.

I Nowadays, the postman, barber and regular tradesmen will get a tip from me as they perform a good service, nobody else.

So you reckon your barber provides a good service PVR ? Have you not got any mirrors in your house then ???

Any reference with Xmas in gets tipped with a tut of contempt.

Only in restaurants... and the cleaners pot at work.

Binmen and the like no. But then I don't have window cleaners or stuff like that either.

I was told yesterday that Asda and Tesco staff including delivery drivers are instructed not to accept tips, unsure if correct, so are staff strip searched at the end of the day :?
