Genuine fan I’m sad to hear Chris has passed, not going to say I cried or anything, never met the guy, but love his music, and he came across as a throughly good down to earth bloke.

RIP Chris, I doubt I’ll ever stop listening to his gravelly voice.
 
Very sad..but not unexpected..we saw him at his very last concert in Newcastle before he collapsed on stage in Oxford on the following night!-;)

Epic battles with Pancreatic cancer and then subsequent complications of his treatment.

Sound track to my like.. my then partner told me she was leaving me whilst he played 'Looking for the summer' at a concert in the 1980s

The album Shamrock Diaries has got some great music to contemplate life and maybe the end of it!

Dozens of great tracks from the Wearside lad..my wife's side are distant relatives to him and his family.
 
While I wasn't a massive fan I really liked Road to Hell - we've all been on that!

He was also a massive car fan. Many years ago when a mate was racing I remember watching him doing pretty well racing a Caterham at the same meeting.

RIP Chris.
 
All the more sad that this happened at Christmas time. RIP Chris Rea.

It's amazing how certain songs have the ability to take you back to exact moments in your life, Driving Home for Christmas is one of them, thank you Mr Rea.
 
It was the music we always played picking up the children from Uni. It was the start of the holidays, and the music just made the drive back. Great artist.
 
I met him a couple of times, as he used to live In Cookham, Berks, and frequented the local butcher's where I did a lot of work.
At Christmas time, the butcher would ask all the local celebrities (there are a lot around there) to 'appear' in his shop as a PR thing. I was always in the shop around Xmas as there was always at least one fridge or coldroom breaking down.

I got talking to him once about cars and he told me about the day he was stuck on the M25 trying to get to the M4 junction which was the inspiration for 'road to hell'.

He was a really nice, normal, down-to-earth chap.

'Driving home for Christmas' is my 19 year old daughter's favourite Xmas song too.

I'm sure he would of loved to have seen and appreciated your 250 project :thumbsup:
