Chris Knott insurance

Went for a quote on my sdrive35is, but Chris Knott said that unless the car was valued at under £30k (which it isn't), the quote would be high. They were right, it worked out at a wapping £1260, more than twice what BMW Insurance had quoted me, and with inferior cover too. So, they might be a better option when the car is 2 or 3 years old, but no good for me at this point in time. Pity, I had been hoping for a bargain!!!

I was forced to cancel my insurance with Chris Knott when I changed my car. My 23i M Sport would require extra £300 to cover 5 months.

I went for the BMW insurance the first year but at renewal I thought I'd have a look around. I could get insurance for £80 less but in the end I think the BMW insurance is pretty comprehensive and not worth changing to less cover for £80.

I'll have to be careful with my words because my last post about this outfit got modded.

The official insurer for the Z4 Forum isn't interested in covering the following:-

M Cars
People in the North West
People who haven't owned a rear wheel drive performance car
and now people who have cars worth >£30k by the looks of it. Remind me what the list price of the cheapest E89 is ?
People under the age of 30 ?

and so it goes on.....

Sorry to have a bee in my bonnet about this but I just find it frankly laughable that we still have this company as the official insurer.

I echo the above they don't seem very accommodating, but it's all down to the £ for the forum at the end of the day

I have yet to get a quote from Chris Knott as I haven't owned the car for a year yet.

I had no idea about the under 30s restriction. If that's true, that is really annoying. :x

I always use Swift insurance.

If the insurance company on this forum can't give or better any quote given by someone else, why are they still on here? Surely if they want part of a Forum community they should offer some bonus to being on here? :?

I have moaned about insurance before, the problem is there is no one-size-fits-all approach with regards to insurance in this country. What is good for a subset of members may be completely rubbish for another subset.

It's also worth noting that you aren't covered to drive another car under 3rd party insurance by default with Chris Knott.

Why?

Because we drive a soft top, now you tell me where the logic is there.

They did add to mine though FOC :)

I think we all know, that they are "sort of" claiming to be a specialist insurance company, when they are just a broker for all insurance and do not specialise at all, but, and its a big but, yes it is all £££s for the site, which is a good thing, because whatever way you look at it, the site costs money to run,

,so, if you call them and get a good quote, great, if you dont, move on, and dont take them literally, just know that they are helping, keeping the site going

I think what Rusty has posted is spot on TBH.

Because insurance is like it is, then whoever was chosen would have the same issues.

If they can't beat your best quote then don't use them.

Mike,

I can understand the commerical reality of picking an official insurer that provides much needed income, and I can also understand that not everybody will be able to get a competitive quote but I don't think its right the official insurer has a policy or policies that exclude what seems to be the majority of forum members. Without I might add, even offering the courtesy of a quote in many cases.

BMW Insurance was £100 more than a quote I had from AXA, but they cover you for uninsured losses that won't affect your No Claims. I own a second car (it's the wifes really) but I am down as main driver, and she as named driver. She has only just passed her test, and I was worried how an accident in that car with either of us driving might affect my BMW Insurance. Apparently, with BMW, it doesn't affect your policy at all. They also offer free rescue after an accident, organise repairs at a BMW Dealership, and make sure you get home safely. For the sake of £100 well worth it I think - especially with all these uninsured drivers about!!
