Choice between two Z4's

If you had the choice between a 56000 miles 58 Plate Z4 3.0si Sport Coupe and a 24000 miles 57 Plate Z4 3.0si Sport Coupe which would you choose. Both are a similar price, similar spec although the 57 plate has a slightly highter spec. This may be a no brainer but I am new to all this and would appreciate the thoughts of more experienced forum members. - Cheers!

Conventional wisdom would say go with the lower miles but there have been a few faults of late with low milers though.

i'd go off condition. the one with 24k could have been a city car & had dents sprayed/wheels kerbed etc. THe slightly higher miles one could have been a garage queen, just have a look at both :)

Service history and work carried out. 24k one may not have been serviced to time interval and may also be in need for discs/pads etc. At 58k you'd hope that anything that may have degraded by then and need replacing will have been replaced.

I'd be swayed towards the lower mileage one - at the end of the day it's half the mileage and half the wear and tear of every other component compared to the higher mileage one - but as said it's all down to provenance, service history and condition . I know I've banged on before about checking but if you're as fussy about cars as I am I would want the car to have original coachwork free of dings etc and preferably with few owners - again I say ask to see v5 doc and check MOT history on DVLA to confirm mileages and that any advisories have been addressed - check tyres and state of alloys - depends of course on price - a body ding two can most times be repaired cheaply by a good dent removal man ( if it needs painting then that would put me off ) likewise alloys can be refurbed reasonably cheaply. When I was looking for mine I came across a local car that had only done 22k miles and had only one owner but it was shite and would have taken a small fortune to get it up to an acceptable standard.

Hope this is some help to you. Good luck.

If the condition of the two cars is comparable and mileage checks out then its a no brainer: go for the 24k

condition & price for me, some owners are aproaching 300k on their 3.0i cars with no issues-50k is nothing.
regards

No brainer - go for the Roadster

Hey, thanks for the advice! I am travelling up on Sunday to view the 24K Z4 at the dealer. It's been listed for a couple of weeks now but has not been ready for me to view as has been in garage having the ABS fixed as the warning light was showing on the dashboard apparently. Will there be any differences in the engine type or vehicle shape or vehicle spec between the 57 and 58 plates - Cheers.

Nothing to differntiate between the 57 or the 58 although the lower mile one would give you some time before the wing mirror glass fell out :P

I had a similar choice to make when buying mine, 6 months age diff, 15k miles diff, dealer vs private, sat nav vs two tone leather, £2.5k diff. In the end I went for the lower mileage, sat nav (dealer) car as it was the better condition, nicer spec car. Make a pros and cons list and buy my car instead haha!

Don't feel you have to compromise and settle for a coupe just because they're available. A good roadster is sure to come up soon if you're patient :fuelfire: :poke:
(j/k - love the coupes)
