Hi,

Looking for some advice re a chipped windscreen on my 2014 E89. Small chip at the top of windscreen was caused by a small stone from a passing vehicle. Autoglass attended to carry out repair on "10mm bullseye". The repair hasnt worked and the advice is to get replacement windscreen fitted as crack will start to spread!

Anyone have experience of an oem spec windscreen being fitted as opposed to a genuine BMW one? If genuine fitted will probably have to pay more than £25 for repair. Have read that if you have HUD then BMW screen is way to go but obviously not a applicable to my model. Any thoughts before I arrange.

Cheers

I paid extra £100 odd to get genuine (as possible) screen.
The cheaper Chinese one cracked next day after fitting and it's same replacement was rubbish, couldn't see out in rain.
So they went half with BMW screen.

I had a non BMW screen fitted 3 years ago by National Windscreens under my insurance; got good service and the glass seems fine.

A lot of insurance companies will only contribute a small amount of money towards a new windscreen from somewhere other than their recommended window replacement company.

Some of the aftermarket heated windscreens looks terrible. Other cheap windscreen have issues windscreens have issues with sensors.

Sometimes the windscreens supplied are made by the same manufacturer that makes the genuine factory part.

I will look later what screen i had fitted, but at least i think it had BMW logo on it unlike the wavy Chinese one fitted.
I ordered from dealer and had delivered to fitters.

Thank you for your replies. Much appreciated. Waiting for Autoglass to give a quote for a BMW screen and will decide then what screen to go for.

BMW don't make the screens, they are sourced from a number of different suppliers. My replacement was made by Pilkington who are an OEM supplier.

My cars windshield says
BMW logo
Carlex
43R-000168

I give it 9/10 for quality.
When cold water causes hazing and smudging of glass outside until warmed up for a few minutes with demister.
