For a project, I need to get hold of a manufacturer who can make electronic chips for me. I can't go in detail as it is a confidential project, but basically the chip has to operate a solenoid and has to be able to write some audit data to a memory element as well.

Vague at the moment I know, but I need to get some introductions to manufacturers first before I can explain the finer details ...

I used this company to design and build a PCB(http://www.solectron-ltd.co.uk/); perhaps they may be of help?
Not sure where you are but it says South East and this in in Fareham near Portsmouth.

Not this, no. I would need thousands of the little buggers ...

Thanks for the other suggestions, I am also going to speak to ARM as they are already a client of mine for a different application.
 
a NO TOUCH module, opens when its sunny, closes in the rain.... Bet you took GapTechs apart for ideas :D
 
Do you really need something totally bespoke?

When you take the masks into account, design and testing you are looking at far in excess of 25K to put a run through.

Try working with a uni and get them to design and put it on a multi project wafer.

Get in touch with these people for that sort of thing:

They'll hopefully point you in the right direction. otherwise you'll have to get hold of the design tools and PDK's

I work in the industry and know most universities and semiconductor companies in Europe if not the world - i work with many of them.

PM me with a bit more of an outline and i'll try and point you in the right direction.

Well, bespoke as in that I need to be able to communicate with the device and use info from it. Will drop you a pm in the morning as I probably need a few thousand of these units.

I have set up one meeting so far with a manufacturer tomorrow as well as I have no idea what can be done and what the cost per unit would be.
