Chip Fillers

I read threads until I've totally confused myself! I've got a Sterling Grey Z4 (which I love) and as with some previous vehicles I've owned, after several washes, I can now see a myriad of chips that weren't previously evident. I'm certain, therefore, that the previous owner must have used some technique to disguise these chips and other imperfections. Can anybody tell me what are the recommended "preparations" out there and how should they be used? I've heard people talk about Poorboys and Autoglym Super Resin Polish but do these just "shine" the paint or attempt to fills chips etc? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I use Turtle Wax Black Box on my black (obviously) Zed and Discovery. It fills the stone chips and lasts quite a while. It must be more than 3 months since I did the Zed and it's still beading and only now are the chips on the bonnet becoming visible.

Not sure if there do other colours, but it's a lot cheaper than a re-spray.

I'm going to give that Drcolourchip a try. It looks excellent from what I've seen on YouTube.
I'm not sure what the price difference is like, but chipex is basically just a UK version of that.

On my previous cars - I used T-Cut Colour Fast Dark Grey - as I found hid them - rather than fixing them.

As I had so many, the only viable solution was an re-spray.

Is the chipex cheaper?
I think so! The £65 option on http://www.drcolourchip.co.uk/accersories/dr-colour-chip-kits.htmllooks around the same size as the chipex roadrash kit which is currently £47. You can order just the bottle of paint from chipex for around £20 too if you don't want the blending solution. I find it easier to use the paint then flat it with wet sanding or a denibber tool, the solution always seems to take too much out for me.

I have tried chipex..... IMHO its a rip off,the products you get for the money is ridiculous, and you end up wiping away most of the colour.

I always use scratch doctor now... Great kits and right money too..

Yes it is ..

Patience is what gets the results not a price tag
Do you mix the colour and clear to use that kit, or do it layers? I like the chipex paint because it's already mixed and you don't lose the colour as I have before trying to mix. Doing a lot with them separately is a ball ache, and even getting good results on one isn't easy. As I said earlier, you can get the 50ml bottle of chipex paint for around £20 on it's own, then level it however you like if you don't want to use the blending solution, which makes it not worth the hassle of the cheaper kit for me.

It's either this or a £500 respray for my entire front end, and I have interlagos blue as well. I'll be placing an order for Dr ColourChip very soon. If anyone has any example videos of that other ebay item in action that aren't filmed at 240p grainy naff unwatchable quality (ffs it's a video about visual clarity!) I'd be really interested to see if another product is just as good for cheaper.

Chipex is an identical system and is cheaper, I might have mentioned it earlier in the thread :P

No you don't mix it...

You get base colour and laquer.. Then applicators..

The chipex kit is paint and a bottle of thinners( blender) .. At the price it's a blatent rip off.
There is never enough blender in the kit, that's why they offer another bottle cheap if you buy the kit.

I have seen some bmw's that have more if a paint "rash" rather than just chips .. This is really hard to deal with but can be made to look better with touching in and some heavy compounding..

Isn't this just matched touch up paint and cellulose thinners to remove excess paint before it hardens? :?
