Chinese Grand Prix - F1 question again, sorry!

Nope Alonso is still racing because he believes he can be world champ again,
That's naive John (by you not him). He has spent the last 15 years running around near the back of F1 races in cars that were never going to win. I believe he is well aware that he has been paid handsomely to develop cars from the driver's seat.

That’s naive Pondy, by you. 😆

Alonso has been at the right place at the wrong time since his first stint at McLaren, he gave years to Ferrari until his patience ran out, same with McLaren. It’s common knowledge in F1.

I'm guessing you are an Alonso fan, then?
I'm a Hamilton fan.

We all have our crosses to bear. ;)

Alonso is probably in F1 as he has nothing better to do... I mean why else would he retire, win Le Mans/WEC and return within 2 years? If he wanted to win he could've just stayed in WEC or go to indycar

Alonso's wife looks expensive to keep happy!

But let's face it wouldn't you just drive a F1 all day for several million a year, even it was the slowest? Not to mention the fame that comes with it, how many WEC drivers get paid the same or have the same media presence for 30 years+?

Guys, honestly, every driver in Formula one has the desire to win, if they are given subpar equipment they are going to complain about it. The difference between Lawson and Alonso et al, is that former is a more insecure about his position within the team and knows he can easily be replaced than the likes of Alonso, Hamilton and Verstappen, so it is tempered in interviews.

If an F1 driver isn't complaining about something, it's because he's winning. I had to admire Verstappen over the weekend, he was cheerfully, but very matter of fact, criticising his car as undrivable and inconsistent, no care in the world about repercussions from the team.
