As far as I can tell we are talking about the same manufacturers - although through different resellers - I asked the sales guy if “the engineers” are working on an E89 specific screen and he said yes. He confirmed that the software and GUI would be identical too.

Not to hijack your thread,but I found a guy that does custom gauge clusters on Ebay I may try (after reading this post!) Not as intricate as the poster's here but may be simpler to install..

Seems like a lot of money for what he's offering. I replaced the gauge faces in my car some time ago using Venoxy gauge faces, much better results and way cheaper, see this thread:

A couple of things to appreciate about these (based on these images only and not the content of the sellers advert)
They are E9x clusters, and to the best of my knowledge, they are not compatible in the E89.
"Plug n play" only if you use your original cluster, if its an exchange basis then it'll need coding. If it's a full replacement cluster then it'll need additional coding.
If that's just face's that are changed and maybe new LED's on your original cluster then that's very expensive.
