Chilly morning commute

A beautiful if rather cold start to the day here in Somerset. What could be better then than a brisk drive in to work in the Zed!

Hat and warm clothing on, heater on, heated seats on. The temp gauge read 3 degrees first thing, but I was really snug. As for the drive, well apart from a bit of traffic it was very enjoyable. The car seemed to really love breathing that cold dense air. It was definitely more eager and sounding sweet. You always get some funny looks when our and about top down in cold weather and this morning was no exception. But I bet those other drivers in their tin-boxes weren't enjoying their drive to work as much as I was! :D

Who else had a chilly but invigorating top-down drive in to work this morning? :driving:

I did yesterday morning, it was a refreshing 6 degrees but clear blue skies on the South coast! Coat, gloves, heating and seats on and it was nice and toasty! I tend to have the roof down whenever I can unless it's raining or looks generally miserable - and yep I've had a few funny looks from other drivers/pedestrians too but I don't care!

I was on the bike (Harley) this morning and I was layered up and pretty comfortable. Fingers did get a bit chilly even with winter gloves, but I plan on getting some heated grips fitted which should solve that! It's nice having two fun modes of transport, can be a difficult choice at times :D

Drove my 24 mile to work this morning with top down, greeted with frosty roof and temp gauge read 3 deg C. My woolly hat was in the boot and couldn't be bothered to stop so head was a bit chilly by the end. But still the best way to be in a Z4.

Had to go out at lunchtime - top down, wonderful  I'm seriously debating whether to use the hardtop this winter.

Suggestions on gloves anyone? Always feels a bit slippy on the leather wheel when wearing my normal ones. Managed with cold hands the last 2 days but I'd rather not be arriving at work with blue fingers

I didn't bother with specific 'driving' ones, bought a pair of leather gloves from TKMax, make sure you get a tight fitting pair :driving:

I think mine are golf gloves, in black. Quite a tight fit with leather palms. Not particularly thick or warm, but enough to keep the worst of the cold out, plus vents blowing warm air at my hands. They afford a decent grip on the wheel, without looking too much like old-school driving gloves.

Leave it off. Much more likely to drop the top for a crisp winter day blast if you don't have to wrestle the hard-top off and stow it first. Hard-top on = too many missed opportunities for winter drives when the weather is fine! :)

Its the reason ive never done the hardtop thing on this or previous verts. Too many opportunities to get the roof down would be missed. Plus the standard roof is so good in winter I just don't see the need

AS an older member I can never understand why people take their cars of the road in winter. Mine is a garage queen but cold sunny winter days are unbeatable for getting the car out, roof down and heater on. Even the wife really enjoys it.
