Just signed up, not yet a Z4 owner but looking! Chose it over Boxster & S2000/MX5.

Any advice? I've posted a WBT thread.

Welcome

All depends what your looking for. Every car is different.

Unusual for some one considering a Boxster, to also be thinking MX5. I note all go topless, so what about and Elise.

Many flavours of Zed too. Any clues on budget?

Don't be swayed by the negative comments regarding MX5s - terrific little sports car, reliable and great fun. You can buy a lot of MX5 for the same money you'd spend on a Zed S2000 and Porsche so if budget is a consideration don't count it out. Then it's also brilliant in urban settings so if you want something to buzz about town or commute in then it's terrific for that.

I found the Zed takes you into a different ownership experience as would the Porsche I would guess (though I have no experience of this marque). A more serious and focussed drive and one that demands more attention and commitment both in terms of driving and maintenance if you want to get the best out of it. Costs increase on all areas but if you're in the market for such a sports car you won't be disappointed in any of the other three.

I did find the S2000 a little lacking in character and involvement when I test drove one before the Zed. I thought I would enjoy the high revving engine but I found it a bit disconcerting taking it up to such a high limit, despite coming from a motorcycling background where riding was based upon high revs. . . .I was surprised it didn't do it for me but you should try one and see how you find it - although they are getting old they have a good mechanical reputation and were always at the top of ownership polls.

There are posts set up for those looking to buy a used Zed, on this forum. Look it up and read through before you start your search - it's an excellent write up which highlights what to look out for and the major issues to check.

Good luck with your search!

Use the buyers guide when looking.Look at a few and have a drive if possible.
Check the roof operation,if the motor is in good order it should drop in 6/7 sec.
3.0 ltr models give most smiles per mile.

Some advice

1) Buy a coupe
2) Get an auto
3) Make it a sport
4) Go for a non-bland interior

Sorted

Think it's obvious the OP is looking for a proper sports car not a hatchback.
