Check Engine / oil service

Had a long motorway trip and then some short ten min journeys the next day, the check engine light (and oil message) came on. I also noticed that the next oil service message changed from ~4000 to read ~200 now.
Is that normal for it to jump so much? The 4000 would've meant the next service was due at 60,000 miles.
I couldn't check the engine because it the bonnet isn't popping..I'm pulling the lever on the drivers side and nothing is happening.
Quite worried as the MOT is due in a month and today is the earliest I can take him.
All advice greatly appreciated please.

the bonnet not popping will be the latch rusting / seizing... I had this and it wasn't recoverable (not for the price of a new bit).
Luckily, the cost of a replacement is about £45 including the bolts, and it's a 10 minute job to replace (really simple).

To open the bonnet, you will need to pop out a kidney grill and get at the latch with a screwdriver whilst someone operates the handle in the car.

insofar as the oil service light - I can't help you there.. I've not had or seen that happen :/

The bonnet release sticking is common. Before you go replacing any parts get a can of WD40 with the little pipe on the spray nozzle and direct it onto the mechanism through the kidney grills. Once you've got it open clean it up and then spray some PTFE spray on it.

The kidney grills are easily removed, gently push them up and then pull out. Do not force them. You should be able to spray the mechanism without removing them though.
