Cheapie 3rd car advice

If you can ignore how ugly it is, the compact is 100kg lighter than the saloon, shorter, and has a faster steering rack. Through squinted eyes, you can even pretend it's a coupe :D

Think the op is after an estate though ?

I think the compact can look good especially with the sport kit & some decent wheels :)

The M sport touring looks great...

Mine is a compact  and with M sport suspension and wheels it handles brilliantly, but I really hate that the back end looks like the guy behind couldn't stop in time

A diesel 3 series would be great, 45mpg+ depending on journey types and weight of right foot. However...

I would avoid one with wide rear tyres for the winter months, unless it has winter tyres. I have a 2 year old 3 series with 255/35/18 rear tyres, and it's all but impossible to get into and out of my road after a bit of snow. Narrower tyres and higher profiles definitely help, but I got stuck so many times last year I'm about to get some spare alloys and winter tyres (unless I find a Z4MC in budget first!)

It really has to be either touring or saloon at a push.

I've seen one online at Moston Car Sales in Chester £4290 320d se 2003. Horrid spoiler but if i can get it down to £3.5 doesnt look too bad. Shall call tomorrow.

My other half just text me a pic of Z4 she spotted today, which she says is exactly same as mine but white. Epic fail... (mine's a '07 coup)

Just googled it (I have work I'm trying to avoid doing!)... Looks alright, even with the ridiculous spoiler :)
It just says "service history" not FSH, that's the only thing...

Nice vertical Z4!

Haha Lytham St annes that's my village I've seen that car up close it looks tidy !

You're kidding - small world / forum eh? Is it for sale at a dealer?

Hope to pop up on Sat but will hide the Z around the corner & pretend I'm penniless (which I am)..!

Yeah it's a dealer I've been to look at a BMW from him before if I remember correctly!

You should leave your z in my capable hands for a few hours :p

For £2.5k you are welcome to take my mums polo that she's had since new that's only got 24.5k on the clock. I was keeping it for my son but he didn't pass his test and has now gone to Uni.

Cam belt changed in 2009, taxed till Mar 2012, MOT due soon but will sort that anyway as it never fails, CD changer in boot, AC, PAS, both keys & FSH on a 1.4 16v Polo Match

Bodywork looks fab though be aware there are marks on it, scuff on rear bumper and rear passenger quarter panel

My dad has a 318ise 2002 for sale in silver - he's only after 2400 for it with 91000 miles
I had exactly the same model before my Zed, you get the upgraded engine and clear indicators etc, the car still looks surprisingly fresh and modern in that pic compared to some other cars from the same period. It was never the most powerful thing but it went quite well as long as you planned your overtakes and on a motorway run 500 miles out of a tankful was just about achievable. At that price it seems an absolute bargin, wish I was in the position to buy now and I'd rip his arm off.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing next year and spotted what looks like a nice Audi A4 2.5TDI Quattro with similar milage but it's a shade under 4k, I just really want another 4 wheel drive again for some reason.

Thanks Richard it's a tidy motor but has a few small isssues easily rectifiable

Wheels could do with tidying
Couple of small dents around bodywork

But for the money it has the issues taken into consideration

Regards

:)
