I've been threatening one of these for a while now, viewed a few last year but was terrified of rust at that time and it just so happened that a decent 205 came up so that got bought instead. Well with all the bodywork now done on the 205 project i'm no longer afraid of a little rust. So with all the recent gushing on pistonheads regarding the 25th anniversary I found the lure to hard to resist.

Picked this up locally (pics from the ad) from a guy on the MX5 forum. It's a 10th anniversary model so comes in limited Innocent Blue Mica with matching carpets and half leather/suede interior and extra 90s retro naff 2 tone steering wheel. Mechanically it has the 16v 1.8 140bhp engine, bigger brakes, bilstein suspension, 6 speed close ratio box adjustable strut brace and most importantly, a Torsen limited slip diff :driving: . As with every MX5 it needs some rust sorting but nothing I can't sort myself with a few days work. The engine and everything else is sound at 82k miles with full history.

Yeah, yeah, I know there will be a lot on here that will laugh at my piddly 140bhp but honestly, if you have not had a blast in an LSD equipped MX5 then you are missing one of lifes driving pleasures. It's so much fun, everything just feels right and a pleasure to drive with the added bonus of being able to throw them around without losing your license or potentially killing yourself.

Love that! New steering wheel, mats, and a bit of rust to get rid of and it'll be cool as.

That is really nice Mowflow. I never noticed before how long the back of them are. (Nearly as long as my car :D )
You'll have plenty of fun with it.

Haha, that is actually the previous owners out house. I did however notice that the car is well coordinated with the wheelie bins in the first pic. Wheelie bin blue mazda.

A Mazda Miata.... hmmm, hope you have thick hairdresser skin....

Nice cars with a bad rep. But fun to drive

They are such good fun cars. AN ex had a 1.6 witch was fun and my father in law has a 1.8 with a LSD loads of fun.

No other car can come close for fun RWD at this sort of price.

We had a mark 2 MX5 and it was a brilliant sportscar and fabulous fun on the road. Just enough performance which meant you had to drive it hard and great handling. I loved driving that car and it just kept coming back for more, The extra 1000rpm (it would rev to 7000rpm) made a big difference on the road. You've got a great example with some impressive features.

Just brilliant - I'm very jealous!

:driving:

Nice - enjoy
I hired an old one (1.6?) on holiday in Cyprus a couple of years ago and it absolutely made the holiday :D
It made my mind up to buy one for my next car................then I saw a Zed in the company car park, rest is history, but I wouldn't so no to one

I am definitely with you on this one, this is my other toy :D

Looks cracking that. What model is it? I really wanted a Mk1 but my priorities were something with the 1.8 and an LSD so when the 10AE came up locally with tolerable rust at a good price I decided looks mattered less. The kicker was that the next day a mariner blue (my preferred colour choice) Mk1 1.8 with Torsen LSD came up for sale for half the price only 20 miles from me. I was seriously tempted to just buy it as well but I was already in enough trouble with Mrs Mowflow for buying this one without telling her.

It’s a Eunos S Limited, an import. Has a few special bits namely a red interior with red leather. Mine also has a Mines ECU which has slightly higher rev limit and some other differences. I had a mk2 1.8iS before this but unfortunately it got written off so I replaced it with the mk1. If I’m honest, I do prefer the mk1 although they are both great cars. As you say though, the model becomes irrelevant when you are searching as the number 1 criteria is to find one that is free from rust! I had planned to turn mine in to a track car and collected a shed full of bits but sold them all recently (to fund things on the Z4) so at the moment I am debating whether to sell the eunos, they are cracking little cars though and so easy to work on.
