Ok so quick update:
Bought both sets in the end, needless to say the 9 SMD ones are a lot brighter and better quality. Not to worry, can keep the others as spares, was only £4.
Fitting was fairly simple. However, contrary to the above I had to prise mine off differently. There is a small gap on the black plastic you can put a small flat head screwdriver into. You then push a spring and hey presto out it pops. The left one was on the inside (right side) and the right one was on the OUTSIDE (right side aswell) so slightly different to above post.
Unfortunately though one of the 9 SMD lights isn't working so I've messaged the seller and he's sending me a replacement. Anyway, here's a few pics...

Looks pretty decent IMO, modernises the car a little. Hopefully not too boy racery! All in all not bad for £4 and 10mins of labour.
