Cheap Mobil 1

Hi guys,

Getting close the the 12,500km mark since service reset. I've decided that there's no way I'm doing 25k until an oil change so I figured I'll do a change myself at half the interval and get the dealer to do a change at the full interval and stamp the book. From my online research Mobil 1 0W40 is by far the most highly recommended so that's what I want to go with, however the retail price here is AU$95 for 5 litres. That's $19 per litre.

Exercising my google-fu I ran across this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Mobil-1-Engine-Oil-0W40-5W30-5W40-5W50-15W50-6-Quart-/170453896957 selling 6x1 quart packs for AU$65. 6 quarts is just under 6L, giving a cost of $10.83 per litre. Nearly half the cost!

So I was speaking to my ultra paranoid neighbour who is also a BMW driver (he just bought a 2010 335) and he was naturally very suspicious. Ultimately he thought it was a massive risk as who knows what the oil actually is. He has a point I suppose, but come on I want a good deal here!

What do you guys think? Worth the risk? Of course I'd have to buy two packs to get the 7L required for the M54 engine and if I'm going to do that I figure I might as well buy three packs and have enough for two oil changes...

Thanks in advance!

I got a 5L of mobil one from Asda last year for £18... so maybe they can source it that cheap?

That's what I'm thinking. We pay such inflated prices for most things here compared to US/UK I figure this guy is just taking advantage of that. He does say that it's imported from the US...
