Cheap(ish) holiday in august?

Hi guys,

We are in the process of buying a holiday home. It has already tken several months and we actually hoped it would be ours by now. So we planned our holidays in august (between 11/8 and 31/8) but now it seems the sale won't be settled by then (long story). So we asked the current owners (the house is empty at the moment) if we could stay there anyway, just for our holidays. But they denied our request (they are just too many to be able to come to an agreement I suppose).

Anyway, budget is a bit low at the moment and knowing it's quite late in the season, I was hoping someone could help us out to find something suitable and affordable for our holdiays. We are 3 people (2 adults and a 6-month old baby), ideally looking for a holiday home close to water (swimming pool, sea, lake...), spatious enough to stay for about 2 weeks. Location is not the most important thing but the dream wuld be southern Europe (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Croatia...). Accessibility by car is a must though.

Other idea's are welcome too. Meaning that at the moment I am ruling out a hotel/appartment, fearing it might not be spatious enough. We have a lot of crap to take with us, having a 6-month old baby... But maybe someone on here has a different ida/opinion.

I know it's a bit of a long shot, but I have to try :-)

BA holidays had some good prices on weeks in Portugal. I know you said no apartments but the pictures looked quite spacious and we are thinking of it with our teenage son. Re the stuff you carry with a 6 month old and you should be fine. Otherwise there are quite a few nice Brittany cottages available on various sites and I just discovered that I can swap my tesco clubcard points for vouchers to use against some companies so could end up being a very cheap holiday. Ferries are pricey but nothing near as bad as flights and from experience much easier with a baby!

Good luck and hope you get something sorted.
