I was looking at these sort of things a while back and never bought anything- mainly because at the time the most portable option was a bullet cam and an archos with a media base which was silly money for a toy. I did one day take the laptop out with a webcam & inverter but Windows did it's best to make the video useless, that and the lack of support from the passenger seat for messing with a laptop while I was driving twisty roads meant I never tried after that. The blast up to Oban I'd been messing with video recording & time lapse on my phone and was going to record it but couldn't find the GPS mount.
For £12 I might give it a go with one of those though!
