Cheap car makes sense ...

As mentioned in another thread, got an additional VW Polo 1.4 and must say that I am very pleased with that. It costed £4k and I have spent about £300 in goodies for it such as remote central locking, fog lights, parking sensors and replaced some interior parts as they were not in my "as new" condition standard.

After 1 week, this car has been used by everybody for the rubbish shortish jobs and I am impressed with the "savings" that we are making. It saves about £50 week using that car instead of the X5 for those trips. Insurance was just over £100 and the same for the road tax. Depreciation will be non existent and maintenace hopefully the same as most of that I can do myself on that sort of car.

I think the car will have paid for itself in about 6 months time I think. Plus if I go to London I can actually park that car at the station instead of having to take taxi's to the station to save any of the other cars being battered in the car park (or stolen).

I kept my VW Bora as a daily hack, 130K and still going strong. Saves the miles and general wear and tear on the Z4

we have a focus tdci sport 110k 50mpg 53 plate cost me £2300 at auction 110 a year to tax cant fault it dogs, school run,
supermarket car park I dont have to worry about the zed getting dinged happy days

glad you got that car pvr,and a vw polo, best small car on the market,
i run a 08 polo as well as my zed,and most days i take the polo,

My partner has a 2000 W Polo 1.4 SE auto. The car has only done 75k miles. She only drives 3k miles a year. The car is very reliable. We drive it to supermarket, shopping centre carpark, train station carpark, etc. I never take my Z4 to do shopping. Last month, I saw a stupid woman driving a Vectra reversing out and hit a Mini Cooper S in Sainsbury's carpark, and she drove off. It left the scratches on Mini's rear bumper. I should have written down the car reg. no. and reported to customer services.

Yep I've put 11k on my Micra since I got at last June, best thing is when you get back into your other car after a few days, like having a new one again :sweetheart:

It most certianly does, bought my wife a Focus 5 years ago when she passed her test, we have been looking to change it but everything we were looking at seems to have jumped in price by about 1 to 1.5K and being a Yorkshireman I'm not prepared to spend the extra at the moment, so as it costs next to nothing to keep on the road we have just decided to run it into the ground.

Ive been tempted at times to just have a boring small car and save lots of money but then i love driving to much. Z4 is my daily car but i have to hand...

2007 Z4
2009 Suzuki Swift Sport
1988 Mk1 MR2
2006 Octavia Elegance

I use to have a 1997 vectra before the Z4 to rack up the motorway miles on but now i only do 3 miles a day for work.

ps. Polo is not the best small car, Swift Sport is :P

agreed! done 25k over 2yrs in my 406hdi now, cheap tax, 750 miles a tank and its regularly full of things im taking to the tip, including 400 bricks at the weekend. seats 5 in comfort and is excellent for motorway trips, been up to glasgow in it twice, all for £1300 and a few bits for the last mot.

tempted to use it for the scrappage at the moment tho, cant help thinking id make money out of releasing 2k out of it, just not sure how id cope without it.

agreed tho, the feeling you get when you get back into your Zed is worth that alone.
