im looking at buying a cheap old boot for trackdays, can anyone make good suggestions. id say under £900, not fussed what it is but probably something small, was thinking maybe an xr2i for example ? just something i can strip out and hoon about in really. not really equiped to do lots of work on a car other than the basics but willing to get my hands dirty which is why i was thinking ford, as if it breaks there are plenty of spares about!

I'd get yourself a Suzuki Ignis Sport. Ok, it blows your budget (can get one for under £2000 though); but it'll be more reliable, and an absolute STONKER!

107bhp; 950kg as standard (about 750kg-ish without the rear seats etc?); apparently a VERY good handling car...

I want one!! But not sure how much track day insurance costs would be when I would want to track it 12 times a year.

If you could stretch to about 1300 you can get a 106 rallye (the early one), in EVO's top 100 drivers car's this month.

I had a thread like this a while back- few ideas on there u maywant to look at

Can't beat a toyota MR2, either mk1 or 2, although MK2's don't rust.

Had MR2's for a few years, the MK2 has 2l mid mounted N/A engine superb on track, handles excellent, 0-60 around 7.5 sec and easily get one for 900 or turbo for £1500-2000 0-60 around 5.5, great reliable cars and dare i say better put together than the Z......... :tumbleweed: :fuelfire:

You should be able to pick up a tatty Mk1 Mx5 for that.

It's got perfect trackday handling
Loads of spares + parts available cheaply
Its own track day organiser (mazda on track)
diy friendly mechanicals.

I've been tracking one for the past 5 years, it's fantastic.

cheers, looking at the mx 5's & mr2's then. i did think the japanese would be a better bet, dont know if i want another convertible though.

Serious....Vauxhaul Senator 3.0 24v.

I saw one destory EVERYTHING at a wet Cadwell park, was ex police manual model, totally stripped out. Reliable powerful engine, RWD and with weight to lose. Love.

Hehe.. now that's a cool idea. Love the Senators!

Only problem is, I bet you end up enjoying driving it during the week too.

I have a unhealthy obsession with sEnny's (as I call them).

If you do too them add your good friend 'senny dualram' on facebook, and join the senator/monza group also, some GREAT comments on the photos there.

I have an original sEnny broucher at mine, you should read the wording!

I will leave you will some senalogues....

A senator doesn’t have power figures – this would imply it has limits, it does not.

A senator doesn’t top out, no matter how long the road it will run out before the senator stops accelerating

A senator doesn’t cause G force, G’s are no match for the senator, hence side bolsters are not present

A senator doesn’t have a co efficient drag rating, the air simply moves out of the way of the Senator

A senator cannot be rolling roaded, it would simply drive off the rollers, nothing can prevent the senator from movement

A senator has no limits, only those of its driver

The sEnator does not move across the surface of the Earth, the Earth itself is pushed backwards under the wheels of the sEnator

haha.. as i started to read that I thought you were taking it too far, but now i realise klarky's comparison is crazy, because Chuck Norris' rear view mirror is scared of Senators.

after looking at prices an weighing up the pro and cons i think ill wait till my father changes his '98 323i and buy it off him, its probably another year off yet, but gives me time to research and put a bit of cash aside. dont really want another soft top, and i was never a fan of the mr2 looks wise. cheers for the suggestions though

change of heart - just bought what will hopefully be a great track car on a whim off ebay, seller is pretty local - just needs tax and 2 front tyres, got the bug after saturday and cant bare to track the z4 really, dont like treating her too rough :P should be £700 on the road and ready to rock. interior is rough but ill strip the back out and just put cover on the seats and job done :driving:

will do, going to use it as a learning car, plan to do some work on it, simple stuff like changing fluids, brakes and so on, so i can then maintain the z4 myself rather than paying someone to do jobs i can do in the garage. id rather break something on cheap banger than my pride and joy!

its a 320 with a 325 engine 8) .
