The temptation to be silly and get one of these is getting bigger by the day .........

hahahaha not just recently, but I know the one you mean .....
and no ...... its not really the car I want to drive......

Im just looking at the engine, gear box and rear end and thinking ..... jeez, what a basis for a special / kit car / golf trolley .....

Sadly the running costs are still those of a 100 grand car.
It is a glorious vehicle if you can afford to throw it away.

That's the trouble with such stuff. So cheap to buy but could be a total nightmare to run, BUT, if you got a good 'un,you could have many years of (relatively) cheap fun.For the brave only. :D

Well errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ......
At the weekend I blagged a CL500 with 63000 certified miles on it .....
5 litre V8 - should be fun at the pump.

Im needing a car in Norway for work and Im not putting all those miles on the Zed ...... when they mentioned they will pay the fuel bills I thought ...... wtf ....why not ..... :D

Could be a huuuuuuge mistake, but then it could be huuuuuuge fun.
Picking it up saturday then its the long trip to Trondheim ... thats one way of finding out if Ive bought a lemon.

In case yer interested, it was 5 Grand plus my old beat up P38 diesil range rover ........ thats an awfy lot of car for not many peanuts.

Cost me a grand right off the bat for new tyres though
Oh ...... and its a 2002 with 2 previous owners and full Mercedes service history ...... 19" wheels, and a list of electronics to make yer eyes bleed.

I was seriously thinking of getting one of them, it was on my list with the Z4 and an SLK55AMG. Well I was looking at either the SL55 AMG with the Supercharged V8 :o Or the CL600 with a Bi-Turbo V12 :o :o

What killed the idea off for me was the suspension. Its got a very nice self leveling air setup but when it goes wrong (quite common) its £1500 a corner :o :o :o

My brother-in-law just picked up a CatD 2002 SL55 for less than £6k, its only got 80k miles on it! Although its already showing signs of electrical issues

I take yer point about electrical issues ........... I spent ages following that point .... but after owning 2 '98 range rovers, a 4.6 and a 2.5 oiler hahahahaha I piss on electrical problems :P

and air suspension ..... hahahahahaha ...... same story, I have served a full Range Rover apprenticeship.

Gob smacked would be a good word ........... :D
Just driven about a 1000 miles to Norway and I've checked out everything, if you told me it was a new car, I'd believe you ...... everything works, and ..... when I put the new tyres on it I got underneath and had a look - new stainless exhaust fitted, new pads all round .... only thing I found thats not perfect is an exhaust bracket that has been fabricated .... not stock.
28 mpg as well, which is better than the Zed

well happy here ...........

I had a CL500 for a while. The repair bills were eye wateringly expensive. But it could crush continents at will while I sat in air conditioned massaged bliss. I really, really hope yours is a good 'un and you have plenty of stress free miles in it.

Well nearly 3 months on and its still awesome.

made a trip to the Artic Circle 2 weeks ago, it is indeed a continent crusher. No problems at all

It does look very tidy... the CL was one of the last big mercs built properly...
