Cheap Alpina ?

On the face of it a bargain. I'd be worried about the Dynamics being cracked though.

Seen this one on sale for a while (at least since July) and contacted the guy who seemed helpful. Perry and Ade probably know more on the specific history, but the important part is that it's had the head gasket replaced (see below) and the roof motor. Most of the other work needed is superficial.

This is #31, it was on Autotrader in March at £10,750, and ebay in July at £10,495
It's an early car and looks a bit 'used', but the price is good and Ade & I both thought in July that he'd go much lower as he's tried to sell for ages.
It appears to have a full set of documentation and it's had a new roof motor and new head gasket as part of the rebuild so everything in the engine department should be sound. He's been trying to sell it on and off for a while and it may be that people are being put off by the cosmetics - but cosmetic marks can be sorted relatively easily.
It's likely that at 80k miles it'll need some TLC on stonechips etc. but it's just had two of the three mechanical 'biggies' (the other being sticky steering) taken care of so it could be a good buy

As Ade has had this issue but got them properly repaired by Platinum, I wouldn't be too concerned - via Platinum, a full shot blast and powdercoat refurb should be around £280 plus a per wheel charge of £12 for straightening (if required) and £12 for welding (if required) so a maximum of £380ish even if all four wheels needed straightening and weldingStuart Truman said:

So my question is, how do the two cars compare please?
Regarding this particular car, any thoughts as to timing chain breakage and whether this is "normal"/ likely causes? (Thought the straight was 6 fairly bullet proof as an engine)?

I've driven both but, in all honesty, you're probably best looking at this thread - Stuart Truman has owned (rather than just driven) both and you'll see his comparison in the thread
Also drop Fran (big red cat) a pm, she's just bought an Alpina and will no doubt be happy to share the female perspective.
