Charles Kennedy R.I.P

Politics aside I always thought he was a thoughroughly decent, friendly and humorous man with the guts to be open about his drink problem. Someone who stood out from the dross.

Sad he died far too young.

The news coverage seems to imply in not so many words, alcoholism. How easy it is and cheap in the House of Commons etc, and then end up with that he just lost his seat after 32 years. Adding 1 to 1 giving 3.

Very sorry for his wife and son, who is only 10.

I live and work in the Fort Wiliam area and pass his house to go to work and the place is mobbed with reporters cold calling on any houses round about.

The man was decent but had a problem and his family deserve some peace at this time.

The press are just vultures!

Couldn't agree more. I said something very similar on my Facebook early this morning when the news broke.

Yeah I liked the bloke, and I don't like politicians by and large. Shame for him & his family, I hope the press discover a shred of decency and leave them alone soon.

A top politician, imo. Whether you agree with him or not, he had strong opinions and stood by them. One of a handful of his generation left that actually commanded respect in Parliament, unlike a large chunk of today's.

RIP, a big shame for his family.

yes I agree he was a nice bloke, haven't got a bad word to say about the man, unique in the world of politics ....

......... but I have to mention, he was a self confessed alcohol abuser ..... and his salary was paid by you and me. what kind of world do we live in where its ok to do a job in public office when you are an alcoholic ?
Any body working in the NHS will tell you they would be out on their ear in similar curcumstances, in fact I cant think if any employer that would keep paying you .........

....... and, this may be controversial, but substance abuse is not a dusease, its a chosen lifestyle .....
