Changing Wheels

Hi there,

I’ve finally lost patience with the 326 wheels continually cracking and being welded, (3 cracks in the last 10 days!) and have decided to change them for some aftermarket 18” wheels with non-run flat tyres. Hopefully, they’ll survive the appalling quality of the local roads a bit better.

Do I need to change any settings on the car so it recalibrated everything with 18” wheels instead of 19”? Or can I just put them on and go?

Normally the aspect ratio of the tyres is adjusted to suit the wheel sizes

So 225/35 19 and 255/30 19 becomes 225/40 18 and 255/35 18

Just checking, you understand wheel offsets, and tyre profiles? But if you've bought the correct size 18"wheels and tyres and got them fitted, all you'd need to do is reset the tyre pressure monitoring system.

So your existing wheel set up is: -
Front - 8 x 19 ET29 and 225/35 R19
Rear - 9 x 19 ET40 and 255/30 R19

Hi,

Thank you for your help.

Yes, I’m pretty sure I understand the offsets. I’m doing exactly what pbondar has said above and am going from 225/35 19 and 255/30 19 to 225/40 18 and 255/35 18.

I could probably have done it slightly cheaper, but bought a package of wheels and tyres together for speed and simplicity, having spent far too much time faffing around with this over the last week.

It’s my everyday car so I do need to be able to just get in it and drive without having the jeopardy of the eggshell wheels!
