Changing Tyres

Hi Guys, have a 58 Reg BMW Z4 3.0 Sport Coupe Automatic.

Thinking of finally changing from run flats (Front 225/40/R18/88W - Rear 255/35/R18/90W) to the following:

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5
225/40 R18 Y (92)

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5
255/35 R18 Y (94)

I am changing them just so that I can get a smoother ride. Is there anything that I need to take in to account that I may not have thought of apart from spare tyres or space savers etc.

If you wanted to improve the ride quality even further you could go for Z4MC sizes, the removal of runflats along with increasing the aspect ratio will make a huge difference

Just before Christmas I did exactly that change, same sizes, wheel diameter etc.
This was on my E89 but I'd guess it would be similar.
The change for me was night and day.
Personally I see no need to improve the ride further, but I have no experience of that so can't comment that much.

I would just make sure you use a reputable tyre place, watch them if you can, make sure they take the time to balance them accurately to reduce the number of unsightly weights (some places seem happy to stick a big lump on somewhere whereas I find with a bit of care they can get the same effect with less weights, strategically placed, hopefully on the inner edge or behind spokes.)
Finally, watch how they torque the wheel nuts. even though they may check the chart, they can sometimes overdo it with the air gun so the torque wrench then just immediately clicks. Ideally you should see the wrench turn a good quarter turn before clicking. otherwise all you know is that the nuts are 'at least' the correct torque.

I have a compressor, a tyre wrench, a jack from my old Mazda 6 and a rat tail repair kit in the boot. I have used them twice to good effect. :wink:
