Changing the badges.

What's the general opinion on this? Tacky or allowed?

A mate of mine has been trying to convince me to swap to the carbon fibre ones. But I must admit it isn't a cheap mod... front, rear, repeaters, wheels, steering wheel. Soon adds up.

I loved the CF badges I put on my 330 (DIY here on e46 zone - http://www.e46zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13421 ).

I took them off when I sold it, but decided NOT to put them on the Z as the Monaco blue doesn't look right with black & silver CF badges. Instead I've given the e46 bonnet one to a member on here as it fits the rear of the Z. The rear e46 ('vert) one I have lined up for a guy on the e46 zone forum.

I DO want to put the wheel centre caps on the Z though - just need to get a jack to be able to get the wheels off - bought a bottle jack from halfords this weekend that doesn't fit under the car so need to swap it!

Anyway, my point was, they look AWESOME on a black car, and to extent a silver one - but on my blue Z, they don't work.

i quite like the carbon badges, wouldn't say its tacky. M badges on non M cars is tacky !

I agree with the above. Suits some colours and not others. A definite yes on sterling grey, silver and black. Not sure on any other colour.

Cheers for that... does anyone know if the rear badge is easy to get off as it's sat in the handle mechanism. Also the repeater ones, are they just stuck on?

I used the overlays to change the blue to black on my coupe over a year ago and they still look good. Inexpensive and requires only about 3/4 hour or so for the entire car. They do require patience to apply and I found that a good set of magnifiers (I fall into the senior citizen category) were very helpful.

i have changed all mine to black carbon, as have a few other members.. personally i think it looks good on black, grey and silver cars as the blue in the badge stands out a little too much.

I have to agree. I'm not usually a fan of changing badges but on a black Z4 the blue just seems to look wrong. Yes, to change them isn't cheap but then I plan on swapping then back again when I sell the car and putting the carbon set on fleabay.

got a set of black and white on mine and they look superb - as if thats how BMW intended! I agree with the guys above that on some coloured zeds the blue and white stands out

Well I think they look stunning and a womans opinion is all you need :P Definitley a must do on black, grey or silver Z's in my opinion. It's my favourite mod that I've done on mine.

I've gone CF all around on my Alpine White, and stayed with the Blue/White. The highlights the CF provides makes them look much better. One of my favorite mods as well.
