changing from 3rd to 2nd at 60mph

The Clutch Delay Valve (or my translation: pile of poo valve) would have probably stopped you from toasting the drivetrain or spinning the car out. It slightly delays a fast clutch dump exactly for these situations. I echo what others said before: I think the vibration you are talking about is one of:
1: DSC activating after rear wheels slightly lock up.
2: Wheels locking up without DSC (Car detected no adverse yaw but still skidded).
2: The clutch slipping due to the CDV.

Dropping the clutch into a low gear at these speeds applies a sudden braking force on the whole drivetrain to the wheels so something has to give! I also assume you were braking pretty hard too, which means less weight over the rear wheels. Low weight + High braking force = Locked wheels and potential spin.

In otherwords DONT DO IT. At the very least Heel-and-toe to rev match (youll probably need sport mode for this) or learn to Double-Declutch... And whatever you do, don't try to 'recreate' it - it is likely not a problem with the car and mabe something (someone) else!!

Happy driving :driving:

I wonder what would happen if you force the gear into reverse at 60mph.

Can someone try it too after he's done trying that 3-2 downshift at 60mph?

Did I mention the time when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd on the track that I was too strong and put the shifter into the reverse area...good thing second is down and not up. Otherwise I might have been taking a tow truck home.

UPDATE - The car was in for an MOT today and I got the service guys to have a look at this issue. The reckon their may be an issue but cant put a finger on it. Their going to speak to BMW about it.
