changing expansion tank

Hi guys,

How easy is it to change the expansion tank on the Z4? The car seems to be leaking coolant, and inspecting the car, it seems to be coming from the right hand side where the expansion tanks is situated (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT33&mospid=47798&btnr=17_0143&hg=17&fg=05). Euro car parts don't seem to stock the tank, instead saying it comes with a new radiator. Is this true?

So two questions, where to get the part from and how to change it?

No, expansion tanks are sold separately. Also sold from aftermarket companies too.

Directions for changing it is simple, lots of write-ups on the 3-series forums for the 325i and 330i... same procedure for our cars, except we need to remove the plastic panel from on top of the radiator first.

I couldn't get the tank from a 3rd party company, so ended up going back to BMW. The nice lady at Sytner HQ sorted it out for me.

I replaced mine without much trouble. The BMW hoses are a bit different than I'm used to so getting them off was a hassel. I have a repair manual which helped especially getting the
bottom loose. Actually removing the tank is hard as the tank is almost always stuck on. I thought I'd end up breaking the radiator trying to get the expansion tank loose.
