Changing brake discs help!

There's some great write ups I referenced in the how to section. I've only replaced/upgraded my fronts so far and for me it was easy to do. The backs from reading are bit more of a bugger due to parking brake shoes. No special tools other than standard brake tools and allen needed to get the disc off. Tip there would be a type of break free spray such as wd40 or equivalent for allen bolt holding disc on. Other than that if you've done brakes before then you should find it easier than some cars out there. Before I did mine I've only done drum brakes ages ago and found it very simple. Feel free to pm me if you've got specific questions on something.

Front calipers do need size7 ? Allen key, Eurocar parts do a "brake" key specifically for this for about a £5. Front disc removal straight forward. Best of luck.

Only problem I had the first time I changed the pads on the Zed was getting one of the calipers off.
The bolts had seized and I had to take a blowtorch to the bolt.
The discs were a doddle to get off though.

Just use the old pads, stick back loose in the caliper and force piston back by sticking a small spanner or large screw driver in the gap and force open. Job done!

They're not screw type pistons, so an easy job.

I use an old G-Clamp otherwise would of bought one of these.

I don't think you need a rewind tool, aren't these are for threaded pistons that don't just push back.

Also be careful with the disc holding screw, if you damage the head they can be a real pain to get out and replace.

i find opening the bleed nipple when doing this helps, also stops you forcing brake fluid back through the system, if you lose a load you can always top up the reservoir.

is a valid point tho bing as some calipers you have to wind in, i cant remember which car it was that i had to do it on but im guessing at a ford focus/sierra or VX frontera.

and tbf the right tool always makes the job easier to do.

7mm hex/Allen key defeated me when I tried this on my 3.0; I've since bought one let me know if you need a hand a rubber mallet can be handy for persuading the old disc to part company.

Copper slip is handy stuff when reassembling too.

Get mate to lift the car so u can slide the jack in or park it on a piece of old scaffold board.

What silver said just lift the car a little or drive up on something its annoying but its what i have to do.

And Jonny if a kind member dose offer a hand. Take them up on it its nice to have someone there for moral support the first time even if they don't get there hands dirty. Its only gonna cost you a bottle of wine a few beers or something. Your a bit far away or i would come along.

As others have said you don't want to ruin the small hex screw. I bought something like this small set off ebay when I removed mine. Much better than an "L" shaped allen key. Squirted a bit of wd40 on the night before then both came off very easily.

No the monkey meet is not going ahead at the moment. I am too busy making stuff and fixing my car up. Was trying to get it sorted for zed fest. But i brought the wrong ticket :headbang:
