Changing a wooden dashboard

There's a well-speced Z4MC at a decent price that interests me, except for the horrible light brown wood interior. I've done a forum search and can't find a "how to" change this wood for a piano black or carbon leather interior. Has anyone done this task? Is there a "how to" on any website? If I were to buy this car I'd buy an interior from a breakers to swap.

You may find the carbon leather and piano black trims almost impossible to find. I've had my eye out for a carbon leather trim since I bought my car in 2008.

I'm not unhappy with the Piano Black, and it's useful for sticking suction mounts to rather than the window, but it still gets on my nerves when the sun hits it and blinds me, and you always see those fine scratches in it.

When I bought my car the salesman implied I could change the Piano Black for carbon leather for a couple of hundred £££, but when I went to do so a few months later I found it was actually a few hundred £££s on top of £1000.

You could always carbon wrap it I suppose.

I have! It isn't such a difficult job. Took me about 5 hours, but that was working out how to do it. More like 3 when you know.

I can certainly point you in the direction of how to do it, and have a few pictures somewhere.

I paid an eye-watering £850 for Piano Black from BMW and sold the "wood" on eBay.

It takes me about two hours to get those sections out now i've done it a few times. Theres a guide here if you want to do that. You can replace them with whatever finish you want. Ive had mine sprayed the same grey colour as my exterior paint.
Dont let any aspect like that put you of a good car, things are always easy to change.

I certainly wouldn't let it put me off an otherwise suitable car. I've seen a couple of vinyl wraps of interior trim that looked OK (although how it lasts I don't know). There was also an alloy dash up for sale here for less than £100 the other day, I was tempted to buy it and cover it with black alacantra before comon sense took hold I remembered I have the craft skills of a 5 year old..... I'd go for it and worry about the wood later!

I don't entirely like the cirrus aluminium dash on mine, and fancy changing it... Have had exactly the same realisation though - about a number of mods if I am honest :D

Wood wouldn't put me off the right car, but I would get someone to wrap it for me

Thanks for all your replies. Your positive comments now put the "offending" car onto my list. If I eventually buy it, I will seek the detailed advice/help of you guys

All the time you're driving the car you'll be looking at that dash. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Find one you do like and buy that one.

As above, CFL is like rocking horse shite to find and will cost just over a grand from the likes of BMW Soper. I think I have only ever seen 2 sets come up on ebay, the most recent being from Quarry motors so might be worth a call.

Dreamer wrapped his first but has now painted due to issues in the summer.

there is a piano black dash on ebay at the moment, i looked as i considered this car as well.

my mate owns a sign company that does vehicle wraps & i just figured this would be the easiest option to be honest

I'd be happy to buy a wood trim kit if someone buys that 06 Z4M, or swap out whatever is in my car once I have bought it (more than likely would be alloy or piano black)
