Changed Valve Cover Still Smoking

Hi everyone , I’ve just changed the valve cover gaskets.
Upon starting up the engine smoke started rising from the exhaust in excess amounts.

I rigorously checked the valve cover gasket for oil dripping and can’t see anything of the sort.

I’m not sure what to do as this was a problem before I changed the gasket. Not sure if it’s a hole in the exhaust or what lol?

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure it’s not just spilt oil on the exhaust? If so, it will burn off after a while.

It could possibly be that, I just get worried that it will catch fire with all the white smoke lol. How long should I run it for to burn off all the oil?

Run your finger around the cover and see if you get any oil on your finger.
If not then it’s probably old oil from where it’s been leaking. Soon burn off if it is

There doesn’t seem to be any new oil residue.

My worry is that if I run the car for 20minutes or so with old oil on the exhaust it will catch fire

How likely is this? As ive also heard about ccv system recalls? ( I have a silver top cover with the magnesium valve cover)

If you have the N52, the cover could be cracked. https://www.reddit.com/r/E90/comments/z266h5/any_idea_where_this_oil_leak_is_coming_from_on/

I have the n52 with a new metal cover.

I just hope it’s nothing to do with a head gasket failure.
