With regards to why buy the apple watch? I have a dodgy heart and I like to keep an eye on my heart rate and the apple watch does this without the need of a straped on monitor around your chest. If my other half and I both had one you can tap the watch and it lets them know your thinking of them which is cute. Probably a bit annoying but at least is get his attention as he's a nightmare for picking up calls and texts.

Fitbit do at least as good continual heart rate monitoring wrist based devices. For a much lower price point, doesn't have to be charged every day and they have an established pedigree.

Unfortunately three people at work have them and all three have just been replaced as I had looked at them. I'll just stick with my heart rate earphones and it monitors via my phone and keeps a visable record I can refer to at anytime. I'm not one for having more than one thing on my wrist and my watch wins every time.

I had a Apple TV and changed to an Amazon fire TV, so much better and is more UK friendly & it's perfect for KODI :thumbsup

I'm using a chromecast at the moment mainly to stream btsport from the app on my iPhone to my TV but I find it really unreliable. i was hoping Apple TV might solve the problem
 
I don't get the Apple thing at all. Style over substance in theory. :cry: A lot of emperors new clothes in practice. :roll:

Should I get me coat and running shoes ready. :)
 
I use both PC's (in work) and Macs (at home)... I have gone through 4 work laptops and am still on the same Mac... the mac simply does not slow down. It helps to leave a bit of headroom in terms of disk space, but if you keep it under 95% it takes care of itself. The work PC's are good spec Dells and HP's... in theory they should be faster but Windows is the problem... the amount of times I have to reboot is laughable. In comparison I rarely reboot the mac, just let it sleep and wake it up when I want to use it.

It's easy to jump on the "style over substance" bandwagon, but as someone who used both on a daily basis the Mac is a winner for me.

how much?! What does it do that an android watch doesnt already do? They look much better built and with a better interface is that all? seems the old apple approach of do something everyone else has done and make it look prittier and say it's new.

What grinds my gears is that they then say ''Our goal has always been to make powerful technology more accessible. ''.... by charging way over the odds?
 
I might be one of the oldest, in terms of early products, I used to have an Apple Newton Pad, kinda like a PDA with handwriting recognition

AKA the Messagepad, which I mentioned below along with the Apple digital camera (Quicktake) at about the same time in the early/mid 90s. Neither made me want to buy anything else from Apple that wasn't a desktop :P

I'd been working on Macs for about 4 years by then. I remember needing an FPU coprocessor upgrade on our office SE/30 and that cost about £2500 on top of the £4k for the computer.
 
I think those who claim it's style over substance need to go and thoroughly use an apple product. The macbook range is entirely substance, quality and spec. Sure you maybe able to get a low budget clone for £200 less but i guarantee it wont last as long, nor is it as nice to use.

Why is an apple watch any different to any other product from any other company? Some people want one, and like it, some don't? Personally i don't want/need an Apple watch, but if i did, and had the money...

In this instance, 'over-priced' is subjective. If you want something, and the price you're willing to pay for it happens to cover the asking price for the product.. it's not over priced! I fail to see how an Apple watch is impractical (or any other apple product) when compared to any other watch (samsung's or non-smartwatch). The fact it's made my Apple is irrelevant.

I think that, by any standards, a 'watch' that needs to be placed on a special charger every day is a bit impractical.... even the cheapest battery watches will last over a year before needing a battery change and wind-up watches don't need any access to electricity

That said, if you don't want to wear a proper watch but would rather have a wrist-mounted remote display for the iPhone that you've got in your pocket, then Apple will be only too pleased to relieve you of a large wad of cash for the privilege

I've had countless Windows laptops (both my own and work machines) and I have owned 1 MacBook Air since 2012.

Put it this way, I'll never buy another Windows Pc or laptop again.
 
Just to say, the new trackpads are pretty cool.

Just had my new macbook pro delivered.

Took a little while to get used to, but it pretty much feels like the trackpad has a button underneath it. Impressive tech to say the least.
 
I have a Cookoo watch, TBH not that impressed with it; it works (sort of) with my iPhone, but its flaky and build quality is so-so. Having said that, it was around the £100 price point when I bought it.

Would I buy an Apple Watch? Tempted to do so, but not at UK prices. £599 for the 42mm Milanese in UK, £470 in Japan and the US. Guess I know where I would be making the purchase....

Will I purchase a new MB? Again, I'm tempted because of my experiences with my old MB and current MBA, but realistically I don't need an upgrade yet, and I'm not convinced I could live with the lack of ports.

And yes, I do like Apple products - I also had an Apple Newton PDA years ago. I find most apple products are robust, excellent quality build, and intuitive - and much better than their equivalents from other vendors. Of course you pay a premium, but didn't we all did that with our cars?
