I think the green "o" ring was integral with my filter.
It's a while since I last changed the oil, but it's due at the end of the month, so I'll have a looksee :)

Is Castrol Edge 0W30 Oil still the recomended oil? I am sure I saw 10W60 recomended somewhere else.
This how-to was regarding non-M engined cars. For ours we need Castrol TWS 10w60

Based on my experience, I change oil every 7500 mph. But there are some people that are using the 5000mph style. A dirty oil would harm your engine and changing it once in a while is the best solution. According to the proper "how to change engine oil and filter", car users normally change their oil in the range of 5000 - 7500.
Same here. But don't go on the E89 forum or you'll have a heart attack. Some of those haven't changed their oil (never mind a service) in over 20k miles :|

I am planning on doing this how to on Saturday but I have a N52 engine..

What do I need to do differently? The oil filter cap is different? How do I remove it, do I need the special size wrench?

Thanks

Andy

Where the hell have you been?

see here: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40915&p=804465#p804465

I've also been working on my Charger.. though I'm pretty positive once I get through my Zeds MOT, I'm just gonna put the charger up for sale.
Far too much effort for extremely little gain

(had to fly to the states just to organize shipping a few gearbox internals across... )

blah... i've been too busy to get this done :/

I've got the fluid and filter ready to go.. just need to get the darn time to do it :(
maybe someday this week if all goes well

never personally been told off by hot oil ! mrs mad 4, regularly !!  good write up for newbies or non mechanically minded souls :driving:

If you've changed the oil filter it should be 6.5ltr.

Agree a very good right up but no dip stick found on my 2.5 E85 N52 Engine ? You mention on step 16 :

After a minute, turn off the engine and check the oil level via the dipstick. The first time you check, it should be close to, or just above the minimum mark.
If it is low, carefully add another 0.25 of oil, run the engine for a minute and repeat this step.
It should only take one litre of oil to raise the level from the minimum mark, to the maximum.
The stated oil capacity is 6.5 litres, so if you need to add much more than this, check that the new oil is not leaking from either the sump plug, or the oil filter cover.
Be very carefull and do not overfill the engine with oil, as this can be very damaging. If you DO add too much, unscrew the sump plug slightly and allow some oil to drain.

Any idea where to find it ??

there is no dipstick on the n52 engine, you have an electronic dipstick on the led speedo display instead.
