Change The Suspension

Hi,

I rang a quick fit tyre place this morning as i have a slow leak in my driver side rear tyre... every time i pump it back up the light comes on the dash 2 weeks later...

The guy on the phone told me that if there is a puncture in a run flat then i would need to replace the tyre... that is fine but i told him i was going to change from run flats and he then said:

"The only problem is... if you change to non run flats on the Z4, you have to change the whole suspension"... is he right... i never changed the suspension when i had non run flats before, thanks in advance
 
Why would you suggest that... because he told me a need a new tyre or because of the suspension statement... either way i will be getting my non run flats some where else
 
because of the suspension statement, obviously doesn't know what he is talking about in any great depth
 
Firstly, if the RFT has not been driven on when flat and the puncture is in a repairable part of the tread, then he should simply offer to repair it like any normal tyre.

Secondly, he's not a suspension expert, and is only telling you that so that you buy the more expensive RFT tyres from him, instead of the cheaper non-RFT tyres.

So in both cases, he's looking to make more money from you than is necessary. Do you really want to go back to him?

I quite like donkeys simple, calm and considerate creatures BUT not when they work as a tyre fitter! :roll:
 
The guy's talking utter bullpoop - try another tyre fitter. No need to replace suspension with regular tyres...
 
Thanks all... just back from another tyre fitter... there was a few leaks around where the tyre meets the rim... hopefully it will be ok now

What is the recommended PSI for 18" Bridgestone Potenzas... A11y i think you told me 33f / 36r but that you ran them at 32f / 34r

Anyone any other PSI recommendations?
 
I think 33f/36r is the BMW recommendations and I think (it was a long time ago now) I ran them at 32f/34r on forum recommendations. Certainly, if you were to change to non-rfts then most folk run even lower pressures on them.

BTW, how are the wheels doing? Hope they're holding up OK. Got to be honest I much prefer the looks of my 202's otherwise I'd never have sold them to you!
 
Thanks A11y... they are fine thanks, i really like them, although now i like episods also... however i am holding out as i want to upgrade from my 2003 to a facelift 2006 but i am finding it impossible to sell my car in Ireland as no one is interested in a car with a 3.0l engine because of the €1350 a year tax bracket here
 
i think u got ur answer already. i cant see any comparison where a non-RFT would make ur car with the standard suspension undriveable. new tyre place. post up the store on the forum as a warning to others. he doesnt deserve the business
