Change in exhaust note

So after a spirited drive in my z4mc I noticed that the exhaust note didnt sound right. It sounded much deeper on idle as though the exhaust was blowing.

I looked under the car and nothing seems loose or out of place so am I just being paranoid?

Car drives fine otherwise apart from a new sqeaking noise when going over heavy bumps.

Am I being paranoid or is there something wrong?

my exhaust also sounds considerable louder after its really warmed through...... i wouldnt worry about it unless it gets like a proper blowing exhaust noise....

Yes, you're just being paranoid. As the exhaust system heats up it becomes more 'boomy'.

Every BMW I've had from my 1990 520i to the M5 and now the Z4MC has done the same.

arghh started the thing this morning as it was cold and there is definatley something wrong with the exhaust. Booked it in at Birds this week so will keep you updated.

if you're tracking a lot it could be just a little looseness out of the engine. I think its called exhaust leak?

Yea definitely a heat thing - I had this notion many times after a spirited drive and for a long time thought I had just wrecked the life out of my motor - kept telling myself that there are people doing much worse than the likes of me reving the engine hard for short periods of time! Nothing to worry about friend.

Thanks for the responses people, I hope it is all in my head but will find out.

The only reason why I suspect something is wrong is because the blowing noise now happens at cold as well, it started after a very spirted take off with no TC on on a what turned out to be a bumpy road.
I reckon something has become loose or worst, cracked.

So my paranoia did have some foundation, however it wasn't the exhaust blowing. But instead a broken engine mount causing the exhaust to impact the undertray and send vibration into cabin.
Would have been an easy fix if it was just the bolts but the mount itself snapped which means it needs replacement.

Oh well

two bolts missing and two sheared off. the engine was sitting on the subframe causing the vibration. BMW paid for it Post warr.

first shop i took it to said that he has never seen something like it on a car that is made to drive hard. he told me to call BMW of N. America and see what they do before I pay him $1500.00 or more. it was great to see BMW stand behind their product
